I've been busy with work, so no doll stuff today...well, there is a bit from yesterday--Chalyss sent me some AMAZING mermaid doll accessories-- and for some reason the headdress ended up on Gideon. He looks pretty cool in it: His fantasy body was made by Sicktress and for some reason it works on him too. Gideon is indeed a strange angel :D Chalyss also sent me some normal clothes, and here Vera/Rose is trying out new things: I was so interested in her knit stockings I didn't notice until now that her skirt is a bit ...short here. Rose has big feet--at least the flat ones are, so I have found that only men's shoes fit. The heel feet are a little smaller but Rose isn't really a high heel person, so the canvas shoes are fine as an alternative to her boots. Eventually she will need sandals, but not for 6 months or so. I'm still poking at this thing--it is more done than before, and I redid the whole thing (All 8x10 inches of it) in acrylics instead of oil. But sometimes I think I love photography way more than painting things by hand--you get the fun and color of an image right away, and little surprises, too, like the spot of opal reflection at the top of this silly pic of some homemade potpourri. The textures are so fun!

Just a little practice piece, needs a little tweaking--it's one of the stone clusters I got at Marshall's. Acrylic, 5 by 7 inches.

Rajendora (Sewing Box Designs, on the sidebar to the left) made this perfect outfit for Laurel. Laurel is currently on an SID body, which meant that I had to put a spacer under her chin and hold her head on with a Soom resin"banana," all in the interest of having a lighter-weight body with no magnet feet. And the outfit is SO CUTE. It also snaps in front and is so easy to get on, and the beads just are the cherry on top. Laurel just needs some matching blue boots to go with it. Rajendora sews the best things! We went to see if a book I was looking for might be at the used book store. It was not, and the car stepped in gum in the lot: I still came home with two CJ Cherryh books I had not read before (The Faded Sun series). I also signed up for the waiting list for a science fiction show in Boston, so I have started some small painting for that--they need to be able to go through the mail, and it turns out I like painting small. I am a bad person--when the dam managers at the Oroville Dam were struggling mightily to keep water from escaping the spillways, I was peering at all the footage and going "OOOO PRETTY". I'm glad it seems to be under control now. "Look a rainbow!" (Aren't you glad I don't work there?)

I has it--a very small amount to see if I am good with it. It came wrapped in Amy Poehler's head. Comes in lots of colors: I also did a little painting for Gus on DoA as a thank you for the Granado body he sent me: Painting that small is not easy. On the other hand shipping is much easier!

... When you realize the underpainting was way better than what you have put on top of it. This is actually a dolly photo background, but then I got interested in it as a painting, and now I have to go over it and scrape some stuff off that I added since this photo. :p

One of the things I don't like about painting on canvas is how the paint skips over the fabric texture and leaves white "pinholes". Acrylics are stiff and stick to themselves so pinholing is even more of a problem with acrylics than with oil. I was working on a background today and got annoyed with the holes and dug around and found a solution--a bit of cut-up sponge. The sponge carries more paint than the brush does and you can really cram it against the canvas, filling in stray holes. Here's a patch where I went over it with the sponge: The sponge can add some fun rocky textures, too :D
