Yes, there are 2 Christmas trees--we bought a perfectly good "Alberta Spruce" from Target for very little money, I set it up, put the lights on it, sat and looked at it for ten minutes... and then asked J if we could go to Home Depot in the last ten minutes they were open on a Sunday night and pick through the bin for "a real one" ..and so we did. :D The plastic one is now a big nightlight in the bedroom and can be operated remotely, so if the cat brings us a mouse in bed (again) we can flip on the tree and see what is going on.

The Bush Noel

We bought a tree at Costco last week. The tree we got bears very little resemblance to the elegant Frasier fir that was displayed at the Costco entrance, but you have to buy them on spec--you get a receipt and you swap that for a tree out in the parking lot, where it was 14 degrees. The tree guys were not happy campers, and the trees were trussed up like logs so it was hard to evaluate what shape they were, or even if they had branches all the way around. It was too cold to really poke at the wrapped trees, so I just took the fattest one that was on top of the stack, and we took it home and released it. It has a family resemblance to a tumbleweed, and it got too cold so it won't last long, but it is green and it smells nice. With the addition of the tree and some moving of cat perches, we have managed to make the living room look like the Small Cat Exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo.

The tree is up...

The tree is up and decorated--it came from Home Depot because neither J or I wanted to stand in the cold of a tree lot and pick out a tree. J had the bad luck to get over bronchitis faster than I did, so he went out, bought the tree, pushed it into the back of the truck, and then hauled it up the hill and through the front door. K decorated it, with me on the couch going through the old ornaments and discarding about half. I hadn't noticed before that the feather "bird" ornaments had large parts of their feathers missing, and one of them had been licked bald. I wondered which cat had done that, and looked up to see Stripey biting the lowest branch of the Christmas tree. I expect the cats to drink out of the pan, but biting is new. The base is on an old cupboard door from New Jersey. That thing weighs a ton, but is sturdy enough to support the weight of a much larger tree... and a couple of cats.
