I finally got around to painting up my Soom Benmore late last night, while listening to chipmunks gnawing on the wall by the fridge. We have not yet figured out how to get at them, but there is a new crowbar sitting in the dining room for when we decide on the best angle of approach. I think they are coming in from the kitchen side, where there is a handy vent and no access for us to get at them under the kitchen extension. Whoever built that extension was an idiot...you really need to be able to reach all areas of your house. I did find another tool at Costco in dealing with this house: We haven't bought it yet (it's expensive), but not only does it look useful, it looks like a lot of fun. I would take it outside and look into the rabbit holes, too ;)

Minty Struggles with Stringing Benmore

Image
When someone visits my blog, I like going back to see their blogs; it seems polite to return the visit. Minty (http://www.mintypassion.diary.ru) lives in Russia, and (I think) is a university student about K's age, and is having a hard time getting her own Soom Benmore together. She got it all strung together and then "It would not sit". I wanted to ask her, "Minty, did you put the string for the legs up into the torso? Because then he would not sit--I did the same thing with Tremo." So in the photo above, the top white string is a separate string (and quite short) that only goes to the head, and the other, long bottom string goes across the hips and down into the legs, and never up into the body. (This is very different from the old Super Gem male bodies). If Benmore is strung like this, he should sit properly. I want to ask for a photo of how she has him strung now, to see what is happening inside Benmore, and there is a tempting comment box on her blog--t...

Is Benmore Here Yet?

Image
No, it left customs at O'Hare at 3:30 Am last night and no one has bothered to update the tracking since, though I know perfectly well it's sitting in a canvas bag at the local post office, being ignored because it is inconveniently large. And it's supposed to snow more tomorrow, making it even less fun for everyone to move the box around. Argh.

Boy Amber

Well, it was a mistake to go look at the Soom site for instructions, because they have a new Legend doll out--and perhaps because they were teased about Bastet's name,(and maybe because Ignim was hard to remember,) they have hyphenated this new doll's name to be Benmore-Cernnunos. It does sound a little like a major (pagan) appliance company, but at the same time the doll is neat--it is a recast of Amber's head (actually, it's not, as I found out later) (so it is a little small on the body, but not ridiculously so) on the new male body, with a update of the very stable Chalco hooves. (it's a new sculpt of hooves, and magnificent!) I'm looking at this, thinking if I bought it, (I bought it) I could use the body for my rolling Sphaler head (which I know fits on the new bodies) and take the Amber head for one of my girl bodies. Thrifty! I will give you a link to the less expensive kit form, though you should look at both before you buy the fullset or the kit for...
