Lachlana's Flickr

Image
This is Cat's "Winter" painted up by Lachlana . Lachlana did my Teodor and she also did Tatiana version one, the doll I should never have sold--you can see her and many other wonderful dolls here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lachlanabjd/albums/with/72157635281587840

Wasting Time in Photoshop

Image
I've never done a lot with the color controls in Photoshop besides getting rid of yellow casts in photos, but of course you can do amazing things ..if you know how. This was a picture with two layers and some erasing, which left Priscilla (Iplehouse Asa) a bit streaky. Here's the original: Yes, the wig does look like a fishing lure, which is why I thought it was awesome--Scilla looks like a Warhol girl now. Here's another set of goofing around, this time a duplicate layer, Image>Adjust>Invert and then I made the layer a Color layer and mashed it down. Tada blue Cuprit, not currently on offer at Soom: I always learn new things when I do these!

Winter, Redone

Image
A while back Cat and I ended up swapping dolls (because Cat is awesome) and she received Winter in her old, slightly goofy form. So Cat commissioned the amazing Lachlana to spiff her up, and as you can see, she looks gorgeous! Here's a "before" photo: So now Tatiana is over at Lachlana's, getting all done up pretty. I can't wait to see her!

The Ice Crown, Part 2

Also, a bit of Indiana Jones trivia I had forgotten: You could argue the addition of the zip code is an anachronism, if you are a purist :D

Coquina and Cuprit

Image
I am thinking of trading Myrtle off to a house where she will have clothes made for her--while I have been diligent in buying her wigs and shoes, she's had exactly one dress that was hers, ever. Since she is split across two dolls (her hooves are on Carissa) I though I would take a few minutes today and take head and hoof photos for anyone who wanted owner pix before ordering a Free Choice Coquina. Her hooves are pretty--they aren't as stable as Beryl's hooves, but they are easier to slip clothes on over. And they are cute! Here's the undignified full shot of them both--Myrtle's arm turned out to be the easiest way to prop up Carissa's skirt: Here is Carissa by herself--her faceup is by Charie Wilson, her lip is slightly sanded as well: And Coquina's cute little ears! Coquina takes bigger than usual eyes, too--those are 16mm in there. The wig is an 8-9, same as all the supergems I have had.

New Soom Girl Head, Old Soom Girl body

Image
In case you wanted to know if the new heads would fit on the old bodies--they fit ok, but the head looks a little small to me (also Gneiss is Normal Skin and Merry (aka the Cuprit/Amber body) is Cream White). And yes, the clock always reads 8:10.

Cat's Crown 4

Image
Yes, I have pulled more dolls out of storage today--Roswell, the doll above, has been in a box since I moved from New Jersey, so it was time to unpack her anyway. She is a Rit-dyed, modded Vampire Elf Soo from Luts, and if you look way back on the blog Roswell's head arrives you can see what she looked like before. She's a lot of fun. Next is a mysterious Minimee someone commissioned and then abandoned at Buff's door, so neither of us know who he is supposed to be, but at my house he is just the resident crazy guy. Here he looks like he is still celebrating New Year's: Then there is the sullen Angel of Dream Ruo Feng, Antimony, who has, hands down, the Worst Eyewells of any doll I have owned, including the Tender Lahoo I once had and the AoD Zi Yuan. It's a shame, too, because she has a fun little face and really excellent resin, is perfectly engineered and sanded like a dream. But not only are her eyewells too long and too shallow, they aren't even the sam...

Arianne02's Queen Mab

Image
A while ago I posted a photo of Arianne's Soom Cuprit when she had just come in: "Default Cuprit" And now I discovered a photo from a meetup of her Cuprit finished; "Queen Mab." Unlike my dolls, Arianne's dolls not only have clothes, wigs and stands, they are all finished within a reasonable amount of time, too! I should really make Winter her own little crown, or bribe Cat to make one for me (she makes the best dollie crowns evar).

Happy Camille Wig Two

Image
Here's the second (size 9) Happy Camille wig--I have no recollection of what it's called, but it's in two parts, an adorable cropped "do" and some foofy curls It's supposed to go to my Soom Cass, but Winter (a Soom Cuprit) may steal it.

Default Cuprit

Image
I found a file photo of an unpainted, just delivered Cuprit--this one belongs to Arianne02 and was before Arianne painted her up--I think she is "Queen Mab" now. This dress in the photo isn't the default Soom outfit, I think this one was made by Phantom Creations, (I like it better than the default outfit). Default Outfit Here As for the rest of the doll, you can see her crown, her horns (held in with neodymium magnets), what her face looks like unpainted, and her hooves. I have a pair of the hooves for Winter here, but I am missing the connecting shin part--since I bought them for Mel (a Sphaler) to wear, he's got them held on with a pair of Heliot knees to bridge the gap between the male Soom SuperGem body and the female cuprit hooves, which at the time I thought was a stroke of pure geenius. And I just traded off Mel's own human lower legs to get, in return, a female Breccia torso, because pendrithgirl in the UK needed some legs for her Sphaler, ...

HerrZog's Cuprit

Image
It occurred to me it was time to check HerrZog's Flickr portfolio again, and look! She has painted a Cuprit for some lucky person. Cuprit is not an easy head to paint--she has no real defined brow bone and her lips can look strange if they are not painted carefully. Here HerrZog has shaped a perfect Cupid's bow mouth and put some color around Cuprit's eyes, just enough to hint at an eyelid shape. And the eyebrows are so well done--it is not easy to get them the same on both side, or make them delicate enough, but these are beautiful. You can't see the best part from this angle, there is all kinds of snow/sparkle designs on her temples. Here is the link: HerrZog's Flickr I have come to like this sculpt so much, now that I have seen other artists paint it! And you can never go wrong with a blue wig.

"Winter" Wallpaper

Image
Since it's hot, I thought it would be nice to have something cool to look at...this is just a doodle of "Winter", my Soom Cuprit and a lot of photoshop, including John Knoll's best Lens Flare. Big version is here--kind of a weird size so you may need to crop it or shrink it a little: Winter Wallpaper Here 1200x922

Carissa's Original Owner...

Image
http://www.antiquelilac.com/1/post/2011/08/cuprit-head-up-for-sale.html I was looking at Cuprit heads on Google, trying to decide what to do about Winter's eyelashes (and overlooking the whole headcap thing, it's now in PayPal's resolution system and there is nothing to do about it but wait) when I saw Carissa's face--but oh so well dressed! She used to belong to M.B. Lilac, which is to me as exciting as any movie star. I'm sure being here is quite a comedown after being a Celtic Queen, but interestingly, I've always thought of Carissa as Irish. I'm guessing I must have seen a picture of her before on Den of Angels and subconsciously remembered it. Check out M.B. Lilac's gorgeous photos and costumes here: http://www.antiquelilac.com/favourite-photos-2012.html

The White Cuprit

Image
She has eyes, she's on a body, and she's pretending to have a headcap--it's just a wad of gauze courtesy of the Animal Hospital (they gave Stripey a whole packet as a parting gift). Hopefully the headcap issue will be fixed soon, but in the meantime I even managed to give her a halfway decent face. She even looks cheerful! That surprised me. When a doll comes to me with some drama involved, I often end up not liking the doll, but I like her still and she seems ok with being here. She's the first smiley Cuprit I have ever seen.
