Goldfinch, Souldoll Serena and Coral

Image
Goldfinches blend amazingly well for a bright yellow-and-black bird! This was the female of the pair that visit our yard, the male is even brighter in color. They love the echinacea seeds. I don't remember if I posted a photo of my Souldoll Serena after I got her back from Angeltoast (I think I did,) but here she has a wig made by Akutenshi and I think it suits her: And I found a top by Sewing Box Designs that I think everyone has worn (it's more or less Iplehouse Senor Doll size, so it fits a lot of my dolls). I like it a lot on Coral--Coral is a Soom Migma Human head on the Mirodoll body that Sicktress made. The top has a matching skirt but Coral's waist is waaaay smaller than any Iplehouse girls, so I need to make her a skirt from similar materials so it will match. That bead trim is the bomb :D One of the things I did this weekend (besides laundry) was to grind down the neck of an Iplehouse SID body, so it could take my Granado Anne head. It was a godawful job that in...

Black Craft Foam Thorn Crown

Image
So I was wasting time on Pinterest instead of working, as one does, and I saw this image: This was made of thin leather, but right away I thought : "Craft foam!" Well, and some paint and wire too. :D Pinterest also had this cool thing. I would make the rose out of ribbon, or maybe wire and tissue. I found the craft foam and the scissors and got to work. I had help. I found some 26 gauge thin florists' wire and some Elmer's glue and wrapped the wire with the tissue Stripey is so conveniently slicing up. (By the way, the cat gets to do whatever she wants. She is 13 years old.) Mostly she just watches. How about some puffy paint details? Painted with Liquitex liquid acrylics (the thin stuff is easier to get into the folds). Spraying outside  with acrylic spray would have been more efficient, but I would have had to buy the spray and wear a respirator. Here it is with some tiny plastic rhinestones and hot glue spider webs. The downward t...

Cat's Finished Book, A Portrait of Raisin, a Book for Dollhausen

Image
All done! The trim is just wrapped around, I think I should have sewn it to the cover fabric at the start, but I didn't think of it until the cover was all glued down. Those corner things are awesome, they bend easily and really neaten up the corners. I'm going to make one more for Dollhausen; way back a few years ago he made me the most awesome dollie coffin ever -- but the only dolls that would fit were not vampires and refused to sleep in it, so I converted it to a couch . But I have gotten so much use out of it I would love to make him a book. He's got a whole crew of Edward Gorey dolls over at his place in Seattle, so they could use at least one grimoire and maybe more ;) He also has an Ausley Love so beautiful that I am rethinking my opinion of the Ausley head. (Dollhausen has Alexis in a large wig), and Ausley just looks great as a creeper: I don't know if he paints them himself, but I am guessing yes. I'm going to see if I can get the Fractal Forge E...

A Meet-Up Tomorrow

Image
I am bringing 5 dolls and it took me ALL DAY to locate shoes, wigs and jewelry that was presentable for these guys. I need to start drawing names out of a hat and each week make one complete outfit for each doll, so that if they have a chance for an outing, they have something to wear..both tops AND pants. I never did find Rusty the Vampire's cravat, though it has been floating around on table tops for weeks. Up there is Isley, named after Poison Ivy. She always has good shoes, though I just today realized that they don't zip all the way up her calves 0.o After this photo I found shoes and a witch's hat for Cherry, though she still looks a little chilly to me. Rusty, saying "Who needs a cravat anyway? Blaa." This girl needs her own clothes--she got the cast-off tights I made for Naomi and decided they weren't good enough, a skirt that belongs to Tanglewyn, and a corset owned by Cecelia, who is a Granado Nuevo and has a similar wide shoulder. Cor...

Sicktress' Skirt (Mirodoll Muscle Body)

Image
To go with the corset I made last week , I made Sicktress a skirt--actually it's a tulle underskirt with an elastic waistband and then a nutty feather overskirt. It's still a little WIP in the back--it need some beads and the velcro applied to the back band, and a modesty panel so the waistband can fit other dolls and still not gap. Here is the side: And the back--you can see by the sagging waistband it's just pinned: Now complete: (I opted for lace instead of beads around that second seam) Front View: Next she gets stockings, shoes and then maybe a choker-style necklace to finish it off. Or maybe a little hat :D The corset that Coral is wearing is by Cat and it has the coolest loops on the back to lace it up--they are two sets of pearl beads on wire, bent into a loop. It actually fits very well but I just laced it enough to hold it up. Chalyss gave me the black gauze that is the main part of the skirt--it's really nice to work with. That Mi...

Random Wednesday Photos

Image
My purple Resinsoul Lian Body came today! My Migma head is a lot lighter, but I will put some irridescent pearl paint on her neck to help blend the two parts. Resinsoul sent her with a certificate and a really nice bag! <3 Random stuff:Here is what my brother showed me how to make--Cthulu peeps: And a rainbow that we saw when J and I took a walk in the neighborhood. Right now I am still putting away party things, and vaccuming ants.

Resinsoul Hands on a Super Gem Body

Image
By request--A little small, but the wristball is perfect! One more with a regular hand (underneath) and the Resinsoul hand above: They are the perfect hands for the Granado Maiden body, and that is where I will put them tomorrow.

Coral

Image
A sort of muddy Art Rage painting of Coral, a Soom Migma. I love Art Rage-- but it will go along for 20 minutes at a time being wonderfully compliant, and then suddenly get bored and say "We need some purple RIGHT HERE" and I say "Nooooo what are you doing??" and then I will spend the next 10 minutes trying to either scrub it out or paint over it, while AR gets increasingly peevish and random. I suspect it may be a memory thing, because if you just go work on another part of the painting you can come back a few minutes later and work over the problem spot-- and AR just does what you say, having forgotten it's moment of rebellion.

Two Soom Girls

Image
I spent most of today vaccuuming, and then grocery shopping, so not much interesting happened. I did move some things in the doll closet and took out Carissa, Soom Cuprit, and Raisin, Soom Migma, for a couple of quick photos: (Those are Beryl hooves from some Free Choice girl, btw) And Raisin:

The Couch Continued

Image
It's got a seat (that acts like a lid to the space underneath), and the beginnings of a back. I will work on it more when everyone is out Monday, as it requires a lot of noisy hammering (who knew upholstering was so loud?). Right now it's big enough two people can sit uncomfortably close together, or in splendid isolation: The lunette thing on the back needs to go up higher, and the side arms need to be made for real and stuffed and whipstitched on. I'm sure the beads in the back are no fun to lean on, but as the couch supposed to be epically ugly and vaguely 18th century, I think it's doing pretty well. It keeps people off the floor, anyway! I could really use two side chairs and a nice reading chair, but all these things take up room that I don't have at the moment.

Frost and the Awkward Arm

Image
Yes, that was me yesterday, though Raisin (a Soom Migma) is more stylishly dressed than I am. It's not the strained shoulder muscle that is the whole problem, some of the problem is the ibuprofen I am supposed to be taking to keep the swelling down. It's like the Underachiever Drug. I did finally brush my hair, with Stripey's help, around 3 PM yesterday, but most of the day I spent sitting, working on the computer, where I can mouse left-handed, instead of painting the walls with a roller, raking leaves, bagging leaves, vaccuming, folding laundry, and digging in tulips and spreading mushroom compost. (Which I am going to do tomorrow, arm or no arm. Before the compost bag freezes to the ground, like it did last year..so embarassing) Frost has taken it's toll on the garden, though it's pretty in a way: Raisin points to the very soggy morning glories: And the Monster is turning into an interesting collection of twigs instead of leaves: I think I will clean up the ...

Cat's Crown 3

Image
Just a couple of photos today, since I had other things (like work) I had to do today. Above is Bubbles the Soom Cass again, this time with party lights. And then there is Serendipity, who was a Free Choice Galena head with a Beryl body, and I still need to paint her hooves. And make clothes--though hooves solve the shoe problem, they also make pants/trousers problematic. And finally Moonlight, a lavender Soom Migma head and hands on an Impldoll white skin body--I decided I would make do with the Impl body, and in fact, I like the thinner, spikier look of the body--it suits a "bramble fairy." Moonlight is a cousin of Dust Fairy Sirocco. (I have no idea what I will do if Soom releases the Migma head in tan!) I still need to paint the neck and wrists of the Impl body to ease the transition in colors. More tomorrow!
