The Soom Beryl Wig

Image
I have been sort of down on Soom for the last three months because this wig (and Cat's as well) wasn't shipped..and wasn't shipped...and customer service was unhelpful, to put it diplomatically; and that whole Grey Beryl release was just so weird and disorganized..and now at last comes the wig and it is every bit as splendid as the photos on the Soom site suggested--my pictures don't show it, but it's 3 different shades of peach and rose blended together, lots of hair and a nice, non-staining wig cap. It is quite magnificent.

Super Gem Head on an Impldoll Female Idol Body

Image
It does fit, but just barely..she can't move her head at all. If I was going to do this for myself I would first get the NP skin (This body is Realskin), and then sand the neck down a bit--I think it's really intended for Iplehouse heads ;) Also I would restring the body--Idols are strung super tight and I think that is hard on a valuable head, not to mention the joints of the body itself. Otherwise the proportions are quite good--Galena, Cuprit and Onyx and Dia are all larger heads of the old Super Gems and should look fine on this body. The female Idol isn't as good a poser as the Male Idol, but I like how tall it is. This particular body has homemade ankle balls, and so far no head. It's kind of handy, but I do keep her put away as I think J is not fond of having the headless bodies out. Headless Laurel has no opinion. :D

Caveman and Cats

Image
Once more I have been rummaging through Party City for wigs--I'm really looking forward to the opening of various Halloween Stores, because it will be wiga-palooza then! This one ("The Crazy Caveman") I grabbed not for the cheesy skull beads (a weird omake) but for the two-toned wild and wooly look. I want to make a small wig for my Granado Terra out of it, but there is so much, I though I would experiment with making a wig for my Soom Galena as well. Serendipity has plenty of neat, controlled wigs but sometimes a faun needs to be able to run wild. So here is the WIP: I don't like the trim on the front, I am going to make some paperclay helmet thing to edge it instead. On this wig I kept the mesh from the original wig and just cut out a small section of the larger wig and added darts in the back. The weirdest spot is underneath, but doesn't show, and I have some small braids back there also concealing bare spots--it's still "big", but I am getting...

Sarqq's Galena

Image
Sarqq has a new doll--a beautifully painted "crow" Galena (Sarqq likes crows). And the photos are magnificent too. I did not buy the white skinned Galena on the Marketplace, because I really don't need one--but I am glad that Sarqq has one I can admire (and not have to store) :D. Sarqq's Deviant Art :

More Pony Feet and Sump Pump

Image
I am taking a break before I start on the next cover, working on painting the Beryl feet that are on my Galena/Beryl hybrid from the Free Choice Event last year. The resin feels nice, it's dense and heavy. Different batches feel and look slightly different, even when they are from the same company. The Free Choice Event has the NS more pinkish than the old batches, so I was able to match my pinkish Special Order Galena head. The other thing I did today was bail out the smaller sump pit. For reasons not clear to me, the way Chicago houses deal with "water in the basement" is to make a stinky little well and let all the water collect there, and then pump it out to (?).(Yes, we are not on a sewer, a side effect of being "in the country.") I liked the French Drains in my old house, which were under the foundation, invisible and effective and needed no pumping. When you have a pump, eventually it will quit working, and some time last week this pump quit. So o...

Cat's Crown 3

Image
Just a couple of photos today, since I had other things (like work) I had to do today. Above is Bubbles the Soom Cass again, this time with party lights. And then there is Serendipity, who was a Free Choice Galena head with a Beryl body, and I still need to paint her hooves. And make clothes--though hooves solve the shoe problem, they also make pants/trousers problematic. And finally Moonlight, a lavender Soom Migma head and hands on an Impldoll white skin body--I decided I would make do with the Impl body, and in fact, I like the thinner, spikier look of the body--it suits a "bramble fairy." Moonlight is a cousin of Dust Fairy Sirocco. (I have no idea what I will do if Soom releases the Migma head in tan!) I still need to paint the neck and wrists of the Impl body to ease the transition in colors. More tomorrow!

Herr Zog's Boy Galena

Image
Herr Zog has been busy--while I have been ripping out carpet here, she has been doing several different custom dolls. I hadn't noticed this one before, this photo is in "Make up and Mods"; it's a boy version of the classic grey Galena (like Arianne02's Fury, many posts back). The delicate linework amazes me, especially when you remember the entire head fits neatly into your palm. Here's a link to her other new works: Herr Zog's Flickr And here is my own project photo, not nearly as nice:

A chicken in a hat...

Image
A fancy feathered hat (from the Kane County Fair, a leftover photo) A chick in feathers..(What IS that, Popodoll?? The Barbarian of Rythmic Gymnastics?) And Galena Chicken Feet, which I need to finish painting. I would have worked on them today, but a good chunk of today was spent at the Arboretum Animal Hospital, waiting for a doctor to see the gray cat, who (we think) rolled in the mulch outside and got a stick in his eye, or at least the corner of it. He seems to be fine now, though he will need monitoring and twice-daily eye salve. There is no point in having him be an inside cat, either, since he is capable of eating a cord on the miniblinds or finding pins to chew on, or pulling a bookcase over on himself. At least outside he is busy chasing things on grass 90% of the time, and then he comes in and sleeps.

Arianne's Art

Image
ArianneO2 also does faceups..I have a couple of hers and I wouldn't mind having this grey Galena, but I think it's at Arianne's to stay. :D Here's a gallery of her work--she also does action figures and a lot of other art. http://arianne023.daportfolio.com/

Skipper

Image
These guys are making it hard to mow the lawn--there are at least 50 of them at any given time, sitting on dandelions in the lawn. When I stop pushing the mower they sit on my feet. I need to look up their exact name in the bug book. My Galena/Beryl hybrid is here and strung together, and now she needs painting and clothes like everyone else :D. She stands amazingly well when the wind is not blowing and the cat is not trying to kiss her.
