Cerise (Soom Garnet)

Image
Yes, it's Sicktress' Cerise! She is such a work of art; if the sun ever comes out again I will put on her wings and horns and really show her off. Though she is on the RS tall body, Soom clothes fit her fine--though it's almost a shame to cover her additions. She has fancy hands and a decorated spine, and a place to attach a tail. The dye is incredibly even, too! Thank you, Sicktress!! <3

Tiny Hand Repair

Image
As much as I love jointed hands, I do not love restringing them. I think these are Dika Doll hands, and they were getting so floppy the fingers dangled, so I reluctantly took the most floppy hand apart. My experience with taking other things apart was helpful--I was careful to keep the pieces separate and in order, which was good. The new elastic was actually too thick to go through the ring and pinkie fingers, so I had to redo the old elastic for those fingers. Next time I am going to find some jewelry elastic, the colorful, very thin kind they use for bracelets. Even with micro-tweezers and tiny pliers, it was a pain. I did get them tightened and back together after a struggle; so Cherry, (a Soom Garnet), can hold things again.

Garnet, the Preserver of Order/ SG Female Body sale

Image
Ooo, Soom has released a Tawny Garnet ! This is the Open Eyed version, there is also a cream white Romantic eyed version: The outfit is splendid too! You can buy it separately. But most importantly, if you need a Cream White or Tawny body, you can buy it separately ! Woot!

Cherry The Second

Image
Still very WIP, but I have reinforced her shoulders. For some reason this body is just the nicest poser ever, it's drilled very carefully inside. It's just a fluke that the shoulders came out of the mold so thin! I even managed to wrestle the forearm pin into the slot on the elbow piece for this pose. :D Since she is a cyborg, she is G rated even topless--which I think is slightly odd, but with clothes it makes no difference: Such an elegant doll! Soom really outdid themselves when they created her!

This Week's Random Photos

Image
It does include a Garnet that I did a trade for, a full doll with certificate. She did need some epoxy reinforcing on a cracked shoulder on one side, and a thin one on the other, but I plan to texture and paint the shoulder caps and cover the repairs that way, once I have time. I may have posted this one before. I just love how cranky she looks ;) Granado Fayette on a Maiden body. My Sweet Witch Galena (the first Sweet Witch) and Deirdre's hat. Liliana Vess looking fierce on the top shelf..with one arm taped on. >.< The sky over Target... And the other direction, with picturesque parking lot foreground... And finally, a political bumper sticker sent to me by a friend:

Garnet Sale

Image
After a lot of dithering, I listed my Garnet head on Den of Angels--I would like to get a body for Neptune soon while Granado still has the matching resin and the molds for the Evol are still ok, and that means someone here has to be the patron of Neptune's body. While I think Garnet is gorgeous, I was a little disappointed to discover she was actually the Vesuvia mold, redone; especially since the new body Cyborg is a little smaller and more compact than the larger old body Vesuvia was designed to go on. I hesitated for a while too, thinking I didn't want to break up the set; but I did buy the body and head separately (the body I have is from the Free Choice, not the original Borg) and the resin between Garnet's head and the cyborg isn't a perfect match. It does match my Breccia head perfectly in size and color. If no one buys her, I will be glad to keep her, but of the two "Vesuvia" heads here, there is one that is my clear favorite--and that is Selket: ...

Sophie, Complete

Image
This is my other Sophie (I did not name Sophie Cushion the Beryl, but her name was too hilarious to change). This Sophie has been awkwardly living on several different bodies, until last week I gave up and found a second-hand Granado body that she is supposed to have, and bought it. This unfortunately frees up a body and in possibly record time, I have a possible candidate coming to check it out. So in order to make room, I have been going around trying to decide who needs to stay and who needs to go. The "to go" list is depressingly short. Several very old timers are still necessary to my happiness and have zero value on the open market, the less-dear but more expensive ones would be hard to replace, and so on. One possibility is Garnet's head, as she is basically a Vesuvia with some interesting headcap details, and I have a Vesuvia already. Her cyborg body has been claimed by Breccia, and I never felt that the Garnet head was a smooth match with the new body (and I ...

Beatrice, Mildly NSFW

Image
I did finally get my Soom Garnet a while back, and discovered that her head was basically a Vesuvia head, and a tad large for the cyborg body. However, the SO Breccia has a smaller head and I think looks wonderful on the body, which is awesome. (The body is also very difficult to paint, so I can see why Soom has not reissued it much). Anyway, Beatrice is supposed to get Art Deco 1920's styled clothing, so Rajendora (Sewing Box Designs) is going to take on the task of making me a bias-cut dress for her. Here's Beatrice full-length, with some Photoshopped "panties": It's such a cool body and a fabulous poser. Here's the dress--the version I will have will be much more basic, but the color is right:

The Soom Simple Pose Body

Image
I will be honest--I hates it. How two little resin pieces can make or break a whole body I don't know, but even just getting her together (a body from the Cinderella release) was a major pain. Below you can see the torso with just the head string showing--that part is ok, though the tension for the head seems a little off--but it could be from me using a hook instead of the resin "banana" in there. Here are the Hip Pieces of Doom. Before you put the thighs on, be sure the slot points down: There is no room for a knot in the thin hip pieces--those two pipes have to touch each other inside the pelvis, so I tried tying the knot on the thigh side of the hip piece: That was a fail because neither the knot or the extra string would fit in the tiny space at the top of the thigh. So I did what I did on my Simple Pose Tremo body--I sewed the elastics together. USE A TOOL or the backside of the needle will be much happier going into your thumb instead of into the tough elast...

Shopping in France, and Ami Cyborg

Image
One of my very favorite things to receive is wadded-up newspapers cushioning doll purchases. I always flatten them out and read them, and I am happy to report that Singaporean real estate agents look just like their American counterparts, that Finnish real estate pages show that all Finnish houses have charming kitchens and lake views, and that buying electronics in the UK is very expensive compared to the US. So you can imagine my joy in finding the grocery pages tucked around the Garnet head that was sent to me. It also was around lunchtime, and I was hungry. Look at those beautiful arrangements of food! And look, my same steak knives can be purchased in the grocery store! and there must be a page of patisserie items... YES THERE IS and I see cherry pie!! and chocolate croissants...oh how divine to find these things in the grocery..wait... WHAT IS THAT??? NOOO... Yes, it's rubbery imported fajitas ! Oh France, where is your Minister of Culture now? You need to pass a law tha...

The Garnet Head

Image
Yes!! Here she is IN MY HOUSE all the way from France. I saw her arrival photos when Soom was shipping them out-- and I was so sad that she wasn't super popular, because that meant my chances of getting her would be very slim. In fact I think it's possible that this girl's body is at this moment holding up a LLT Edria's head over at Ashbet's, and that body is not going anywhere--Ashbet spent hours chroming the body and detailing the channels. I did order a new cyborg body in the last body event--but in WS for my Sidonia head. LOL at first world problems. It's going to work out fine in any case--the Garnet head looks great on the plain NS body and Soom will probably sell those again next fall, so it's just a matter of waiting. I tried her on the old Super Gem body and for some reason she looked a little small on that body, though she fit pretty well. In case you are wondering, yes, she is the Vesuvia head redone by Soom--just the inside of the head and ne...

Soom Body and Parts Sale, and some cautions

Image
Here is the page the has the links to the different sales pages--I found it was easier to start on this page than to jump from the Notice. And here are the dates: We will open a new Bodies & Parts Sale from Sept. 3rd (Wed.) ~ Sept. 21st (Sun.) 2014. AND they are selling THE CYBORG BODY . No head, but you can get her in normal, cream white, tawny, bronze, or gray. A couple of things to remember--she is expensive because of the body cuts, and the default ball-jointed hands. Also she is the smaller new body, so don't try to cram a Onyx, Galena or Dia head on her as they are all pretty large. The new body heads (everything after Gneiss) heads, including the new Saiph, fit fine. And a note about hands--if you are buying hands, DO NOT BUY any of the new pose hands unless you already own a set of the magnet hands with the ball and pin assembly, because Soom is not providing the bases--this is strictly an upgrade to a doll you already have, on the New Body. You can use the old han...

Soom Garnet in Cream White

Image
And now Soom has that too--in the drop down menu for skin colors. I think someone on Ilsonya's blog asked for it. :D Same URL as before: http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1363847799

Soom Garnet Repaint

Image
Think of it as a "serving suggestion". The more I thought of "why did Soom issue her in Normal Skin", the more I realized it was a good idea--for one thing, you can swap heads, but also you can choose how much or little you want her to be "human". I picture this version as having a wire wig, maybe worked over a yarn core to make it lighter. http://dollsoom.com/eng/gem.html

Soom Garnet

Image
Holy Carp, it's a cyborg with Vesuvia's head! Darn it, Soom, did you sit around a table and say "Let's prank Fishcake! We'll say that we are doing cute little fairy tales and secretly MAKE A FREAKIN AWESOME CYBORG SF GIRL! Oh, and we'll name it after Fishcake's favorite gemstone and well put one of her favorite style heads on top!" And there would follow a lot of supervillain-like laughter. Because of course I am selling bits and pieces already to pay for the LAST soom girl I bought! Argh! Oh, the sales link..yes, it would be nice if she was white or blue or purple...but I am sure they will eventually do all those. http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1363847799 Sales period is March 22, 2013 to April 5th, 2013. (sweat) Edit--now in cream white...go up to Soom Garnet in Cream White to see my Photoshop version of what it would look like.
