The Costume Book

Image
Yes, that is what it is called, though the full title is: "The Costume Book, The Non-Professional's Guide To Professional Results", by Mary Burke Morris. I saw the book first over on As the Resin World Turns, a dollie blog on the sidebar here. Lorraine is an adventurous sewer and she found the book useful to make an Irish step-dancer's outfit for her Mirwen; seemingly overnight.:D The book does show you lots of practical tips on how to adjust pre-existing patterns to make costumes but it's more of an "idea book" than a step-by-step how to book. That said, it is stuffed with fabulous reference photos. (It also proves to me that I will never, ever make a full-sized tutu. It's like 40 yards of that horrific tulle balled up to make that cute little skirt. Even the author admits it's a lot of work.) More possible was the sailor/pirate's outfit, with optional belaying pin stuffed in the waistband: Or this lovely Viking lady's outfit: The

Some Pix of Deirdre

Since I spent the day doing dishes, floors and shovelling compost, there isn't too much interesting to post about--Soom has a new design of the Super Gem Boy body, but there are only a couple of poorly sized photos as of now. Once more go up on the Soom site, I will post them here.

The Ark of the Covenant

It's actually a blanket chest that J is working on; it's almost done. It's very large, which is good because we have a lot of blankets that need summer storage. J just says we "just need to avert our eyes when we take out a blanket." I want to put a couple of dolls on the lid for a photoshoot, dressed as angels :)

Jaden Before and After

Image
So this was my Granado Jaden, awkwardly placed on a Euclase body with bird feet because his head was much too large for the body I had waiting for him (an old Impl Star man body, which unlike the new Star bodies, is fairly small. Jaden, while a gorgeous head, is not a small head. So I found him a new home in Wales with a customizer and artist ( SilverEyedPsycho ) , who has almost every head Granado has issued--and most now with custom elf ears. For some reason Granado heads just look awesome with elf ears. So here is Mr. Jaden with the ears in progress: And here is he painted-- and oh so cute!! What a difference from the rather depressed-looking guy who was here! He has a new and charming personality and a ton of skin detail. I'm so happy he found a good home!

Steampunk Mermaid Art Piece

Image
Hello this is chief producer of CP/FairyLand. It’s been some time since I lasted left a message here. It’s quite chilly here in Seoul despite we are well into late March already. Nevertheless, Spring seems not so far away with a uplifting prospect of sprouting green leaves. I would like to share some news about FairyLine60 release that we had been working on for quite some time. Our newest lineup FairyLine60, incorporating FairyLine system, presented us with too many challenges and obstacles when it came to actual production and processing stage. Unlike 40 cm+ Fairyline, sculpting, casting, processing and packing of FairyLine 60 took twice as much as it takes to process its smaller counterpart. As if this wasn’t good enough, to ease movement of the lower body part and to showcase our sculpting team’s extraordinary skill by sculpting Steampunk detail image, inside the tail. As you can see, tail parts, which will be available only in clear resin is exquisitely beautiful. Howev

Shoes In The Mail

This was the box--Liz (Steinsculpture) Made That Box, with glitter, glue and an exacto. :o And a wonderful, wonderful omake! The whole package was so ...well, simply divine!

The Beetle Eyes Arrive!

Image
They came in a tiny box with a tiny shrunken postage label--just like you would print on your computer for the USPS, but the size for an SD. I think KOK is run by dolls now.:D All the eyes came in little perfect boxes, with the part number on the outside--and poster tack! yay! And inside, the eyes! The guy I planned to put the beetle eyes in is off with Sicktress getting painted, so I tried the gold eyes in Claudia, my Granado Venus. Right now she has green ovals that you can't move at all, so it would be nice to have round ones so she can look to the side and up. And here are the gold eyes--I find the pupils are large but they are sort of cute, and the size is better than the green ones she had before: Sicktress also painted Claudia; I love the sweet/mischievous look she captured with this faceup! So once Neptune gets back I will try those tiny, tiny blue ones. I don't know who gets the fancy glitter 14mm eyes, I just thought they were great. I was also happy with the q

Arlequeen's Flickr

I've seen her working on eyes on her Tumblr, but for some reason I didn't realize this French artist had a Flickr as well! It's gorgeous, not entirely safe for work, and very inspiring! Here's a Nabarro Sumner that she painted:

New Feet for Tesla

Image
As part of a trade with Angela_Valentine , I received some Soom flat feet and some heel feet! I was so happy to get them, as Tesla has been wearing some Impldoll old Star Man feet, which made her stand very securely, but also limited what she could wear for shoes. Now she can wear cute heels! Also, Admiral Pickering can now have some human feet--the Impldoll feet fit the Soom body he's on. He's been on the Euclase body, with talons instead of feet; and while the talons are impressive, having giant parrot feet means that putting on trousers is very difficult. So now Pickering can wear pants again, and to celebrate I threw together some underwear to keep him decent until I get around to making his real clothing.

Mitsuwa Meetup March 19

Yes, it's a Doll Chateau snail, I think the mold is named..."Larry". This one is a girl and it's owner was busy knitting it the Worlds Tiniest bra top, about the size for a kilt for a fly. Here's another pic: Best of all that shell comes off to reveal a slug like cutie body underneath it! hehe! Gherkin came to visit, and brought her winged Bory; the wings are done with Rub n Buff and it seems to work perfectly: I think these were hers too: I was totally charmed by these two resinsoul cuties--a ghost girl, so delicate and pretty, and a merman (!) Akutenshi's Dollshe Aramis came back with a glorious faceup and also got a haircut as part of the new look: (The "Tube thing" in front of him is an long-arm doll stand.) It was a fun afternoon!

The Coat of Wonder

Image
I had Sewing Box Designs sew me a couple of dresses..instead she sent me 4 new dresses for Beatrice, and a fully lined coat as nice as anything I have gotten from Iplehouse! Good heavens! Here is one of the dresses--I need to take a photo of the silver one as well, it's magnificent. Thought you can't see them, there are a lot of clever little tailoring details in all the dresses and the coat! The hem on this dress needs to be put in--neither of us was quite sure where it should be on Beatrice (her dress model is taller than Bea) and it was easier for me to hem the dresses here. Thank you so much, Raj! (heart icon many times here)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Underwear found at Target. :) I missed posting yesterday because I picked up some garbage, I finished doing photos for the Granado Photo Contest, and I did my taxes, mailed my sister's Christmas present (I am so bad) and went out to eat in Naperville at Schmaltz's Deli. Here is one of the elements from the photo contest--poor Alexei pretending to be drowned in the pond: Some spring flowers by the soon-to-be removed pond: The pond with a sprouting water lily--alas, I found it as I was baling out the bottom of the pond, so it's doomed Once it warms up next week I will be filling up the hole with new dirt and compost and putting in annuals instead. My frog supplier went out of business :(. Here's a couple of random photos, one of a present from Akutenshi ; Shirahoshi the Giant Mermaid (small in the figure here) Some cool clouds by the cell tower when I went to vote: And finally a couple of photos from Schmaltz' Deli; pickles and bagel chips and a Chicago Dog:
