Snow in DC, and a Soom Wig

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it looks lovely! M sent me this photo of his backyard from last week and it looks like a postcard. I think he needs goats or sheep to add to the rustic charm. I think I forgot to put this up--I received my Heliot wig from Soom and it's a really nice wig--to offset the cost I bought one for Cat as well. The fibers are heavier than the Kanalon that Monique uses, and I find that it tangles less. Plus I love the mixed colors--you can't see them too well here, but there are blue and purple in the black strands: Blurry photo of the label: Aww, those cute ears! I should take some more photos of Clyde, the Heliot that Cat sent me, he's so cute; and almost decent, though his "sweater" needs a bit more fixing up.

The cord thing on the porch wall on the right (center photo) is a new addition--it's an electric heating wire that sits on the edge of the roof to prevent ice dams. We can't figure out if it works or not, partly because J keeps unplugging it, thinking it will set the house on fire. However, it has been plugged in now and then, and so far no water has come down through the wall and out the kitchen outlet, which is good. And apparently the wire has not yet caught the roof on fire, either.

It started to snow last night and right now it's still snowing--but it was pretty this morning: The problem is that the snow has to be cleared off the walks and the driveway, which is less fun than admiring it from inside. J was willing to go out and scrape it: I did laundry and poked at various doll faces and tried more wigs on Bex--I don't care for this one though it's kind of a cute photo: J kept himself busy making an elaborate lemon cake: The cat was super bored and ate some of the roses in the flower arrangement: I suppose I should turn off the light-up deer before it disappears under the snow entirely. There will be more shovelling tomorrow!

Someone in the Public Works department has a crystal ball, because no matter what the weather on google or the radio says, if you see salt stripes on the road around here. it's going to snow. Like this: Note that it is a bright sunny day--I can't tell you how often last year I went over to the post office in fine weather and looked down and said awww, snow is coming...even when the weather people insisted it would be fine. I picture somebody's Uncle Joe sitting in the salt truck, flexing his "snow knee", and telling the crews to load up. So here is the snow: It doesn't look like much, but it's super slippery, slush on ice, which is probably why the salt was put down so heavily during the week. Here are some bubbles frozen in the pond: I had to put cat litter on the front steps; and next week it's supposed to drop down to subzero temperatures. Winter is finally here! Maybe Norm will be able to use his hockey rink, finally.

Cheese, bread and strawberries...for some reason, the Das paperclay makes awesome bread. I've also got some limes, oranges and apples going here--the gray stuff will be stew meat. I need to go to JoAnne's and see if I can find some little baskets. I need some small dishes, too--I might be able to do those with sculpey, as you can get a smoother surface with sculpey--I hate cooking it, though. The paperclay just dries, no fuss. Also, if you like a tiny food spectacle, check out FunnyLori's tumblr for a feast! I was able to goof around making little food because someone else dealt with the roof, and water seems to no longer be coming in: It's Man Against Ice! The ice has filled up my poor nasturtium tub: I took this photo partly to remember how the shadow looks--snow is just a little bit reflective, so the shadow close to the tub picks up some of the brown color of the tub, while the snow further away reflects more of the sky, and gets lighter and bluer towards the...

Just some baby cheetahs stolen off the Internets...I have a potload of work to do today and some snow shovelling--we are up to three feet in places. No barbequing today! (We have discovered that if it's below 40 F that the barbeque just doesn't really get hot enough to cook well.) Tomorrow's low is supposed to be negative 10 F.

My grey cat just said "Wake me up when it is Spring", which I suspect will happen next week, when we will no doubt shoot up to 80 degrees like we did last year. On the other hand, I can spray some dolls then, and clean up the backyard. A lot of garden equipment and bags of dirt..froze to the ground. We may still have koi, too.
