Peak Arboretum and Cornish Pasties

Image
Going to the Morton Arboretum on Labor Day probably wasn't the best idea,(it was hard to find a parking spot, though we got lucky because we came later in the day). But this time of year, right before the leaves turn, is a gorgeous time to go. There were bees everywhere busy saving up pollen and the last bloom of summer was in full swing. I should have taken more photos, but I was busy looking and walking--the arboretum has new, softer bark paths that are nice to walk on but not great if you have a wheelchair or a cane. But I did take a few photos: Much greener than the last time we came to the Arboretum to see the trolls ! Tonight J made Cornish pasties from scratch, and they were delicious:

Mermaids and Trolls

So I have had this wonderful little Domuya mermaid forever, but she only had her mermaid body so I did nothing with her. But for Christmas, Cat sent me a Notdoll Citron Bleu head on a little old Volks msd body, and I put the Notdoll on my Mirodoll with the jointed hands, and the Domuya on the Volks body, and now I am excited about both of them. For one thing, Rusty the Vampire now has a BFF: The tongue is removable but I like her better with it in, and I would worry about losing it. We spent a lot of today at the Morton Arboretum , looking at trolls. This one you can see from the 88 Freeway going West: (He's "Joe the Guardian") Here is another one: You just need to be careful if you visit their house that you don't end up on the menu:

The Arboretum in Snow

Even though it was 17F, we decided to go walk in the Arboretum. We did the Conifer Walk, which is short ;). We also knocked icicles off of the house: We went to the mall after the Arboretum to defrost, and the mall was super busy with people tired of the inside of their own houses; there were lots of people reading and just hanging out. We had sushi and headed back home, glad to have a chance to be out for a while!

Ten Turtles

We went to the local arboretum today and it is huge. We drove around first for about 45 minutes and then parked and hiked another 5 miles or so. I would have taken photos of the daffodil fields... but they were full of people sleeping in them! So here are some sleeping turtles in the largest lake, instead.
