These came today from CandyWorld on Etsy ! They went out on the 8th, so it was a little over two weeks to arrive--not bad for a little packet from Poland that had to go through customs! They are fairly low dome and very bright--I haven't decided who gets them yet (the "temporary" sculpey ones I made were actually good enough I have been leaving them in.) Magda has a whole bunch of new eyes in now, you should take a look--her prices are reasonable, too. Yesterday we went on a nature hike at Herrick Lake--normally we just walk around the lake, but there are long trails that go back into the forest. We chose poorly though, and went on one that borders the local golf course-- so it wasn't all that scenic, even if it was good exercise. We came back to the lake and I took a few photos as the sun was setting: You can see the first hint of gold in the trees. It's starting to feel like fall. Here is the box opened: It's a slider box, which is fine when you have something only 2 inches or so across :D Here they are out of the box--the little black specks are dust from the foam they came in, and I just didn't notice it until I enlarged the pix on the computer! Aren't they cool? This style is like the Oscar eyes, with inclusions of "stuff" in the irises. The color is "Starlit-Vanity Black."  I ended up paying slightly over 60.00 for them, but I justified it in the name of research. :D (Now you see why most of my dolls wear Sculpey homemade eyes). Here they are in the re-release of Onyx; the eyes were sold as a side item for her: The size, shape and feel are just like my very favorite eyes, Dollbakery eyes. I would buy more Dollbake...

So I am really low on useful eyes. I have a lot of eyes, but they are all "the weird ones" at this point, so I needed some bjd eyes, and when I went to etsy and plugged in that search term, BOOM there was a Etsy shop selling MOLDS . Oh boy!! I have a homemade mold but it is not flexible, so it is a drag to get the sculpey back out when you press the sculpey in, even using cornstarch as the release. This mold up above is for cold cast resin, and I am ready to either go buy some resin and give it a spin, or bake sculpy using the mold to shape the eye base. Now Velvet Way also sells the other part of the set, the molds for making the cornea/iris: I had to pay attention that I was buying a compatible iris mold to go with the base --I chose the "Medium" one which has 12mm and 14mm as part of the set, since that is what I use 90% of the time. This I really will use resin for, unless I can get my little Modge Podge Jewelry acrylic to sit and dry properly and bubble-...

Some cool resin eyes made by Lynn Corr--these were experiments, but there will be more to follow. The gold ones are cast metal, and look very cool even without the iris inserts. I forgot my camera at the monthly Mitsuwa meetup, But Akutenshi kindly took some photos instead: See that backpack in the middle? It was STUFFED with toys..like..an unbelievable, hilarious amount of tiny toys. That wig is yarn, not alpaca--yarn that was combed and combed and combed to pull out all the loose fibers. The end result is very shiny! This girl's outfit is so pretty--I like how shy she looks! This is an etherial Island Doll Noah, on a tenshi body--it's a very posable body and the hands are beautiful. I also like his otherworldly eyes. I did clean some things and ship a doll, but otherwise I wasn't too productive today.

In case your doll wasn't fancy enough, there are diamond eyes ! With my luck I would just drop it into the heater vent when I was trying to put them in, and that would be that. However, Sadol has a bunch of other really nice-looking eyes for more what the going price is for "good" eyes: These are 40.00 usd and come in 14, 16, and 18mm. The doll they show them in has kind of funky eyewells so they don't show (I think) to advantage, but you can see the color and clarity. I like the darker rims a lot. If you are in the US and want sparkly eyes, Fabric Friends and Dolls has Oscars in stock, and they seem to restock frequently and have a lot in the 12mm to 14mm size. Yes, it's another one of those tall, tall Loongsoul beauties; this one has a fairly short order period that ends in early December. I would not have seen her at all, except that I bought a head and some hands from Jeeryama on Ebay, and I am now on the Clover-Singing/ Dollssinging mail list, so now I get to see what is new. It looks like maybe you can buy her head separately, or maybe it is just the option horns and ears, but you can always write and ask. Generally I prefer to buy from Jeeryama's Ebay site  because everything is automated for billing and you have the layer of controls that Ebay provides--on the other hand, if you have an established relationship with a dealer I prefer to buy from them directly-- since they get more of their money that way...

Wendy is really cute --I don't like how they painted her lips, but the whole look overall is so fun and cheerful--it's so nice to see one of these girls smile.  Here she is blank: What a cutie! She is like a happy Soo! If my money tree wasn't bare I'd order her, but I am guessing there will be opportunities later. She has a sister too: That's the lovely Rachel , and you can order either the pink dress or the silly matador outfit with either girl. If you have Granado or Iplehouse guys, you know how hard it is to find "small iris" eyes that will fit in their long, narrow eyewells, but still have the right size iris. I have used Eyeco eyes , which are soft silicone eyes that fit well in most eyewells, but not everyone loves the squishy eyes--they do yellow over time, as well as pick up dust and hair.  I have bought KOK eyes before and I find KOK easy to order from, prompt in shipping, and the eyes are good-looking, and fit well. They have a new website here if you want to check them out--they also sell msd sized MaskCat dolls, which I like but can't really afford.

I am trying to sort of trim down the number of dolls here so they will fit in one closet; it's just easier to keep track of them and be sure they are at the right temperature/ humidity and not crowded. I had planned on maybe replacing the Iplehouse Rebecca I had traded away, for a new one from Iplehouse, with the type A faceup, because I do like it: But then I realized that I did already have the much-repainted Luna head that could fill in for this character, plus she is more "smiley" than Rebecca, and I also like the faceup Iplehouse offered when they were discontinuing her: So I tried to do something sort of similar with lighter lips, and while it looks like the 6 yr old's version of the Iple faceup, it's cute for now. I keep forgetting to post about this, but I love Linny Shephard's doll eyes! She makes them herself out of polymer clay and they are very even (pairs match superbly) and not as expensive as other custom brands. Her Etsy is here , and she ships from London, UK. The last pair I bought from her took about 3 weeks round trip, for both manufacturing and shipping, and they are beautiful (I got the Imperial Jade ones) . Right now she has a few Steampunk ones if you are looking for those, some ready-made and ready to ship, like these: If you collect Fairyland girls, you have the added plus of seeing what the eyes look like in Fairyland dolls! They came today, along with the Mirodoll Iris, and they are splendid! Here is the box: And here are the eyes in the box! They are more gray than blue, and feel almost like glass--they aren't squishy. They are wider and flatter than a lot of doll eyes so they fit very well in Aldwood's head--I suspect they also would fit in my Iplehouse girls, but since they are expensive the girls are going to have to wait a while for theirs. I am going to save up for more, though!

Shelly (ErsaFlora) has relocated to the UK, and as part of the cleaning/moving process she offered grab bags of 20 pairs of eye for a very good price--and I am all about bags of eyes. Though I am not sure you can call it a "blind bag" if it's full of eyes? Anyway, I received the bag and it was full of treasure! I actually use those novelty colors so I was thrilled to see the sparkles and ringed eyes--here are some more: And yes, some more! So while a lot of today was spent outside weeding, raking and digging, some of it was spent inside trying eyes in various heads. Everyone looks great--I just can't decide who gets which eyes..they are so sparkly :D

"Beetle Eyes" as far as I can tell, aren't a brand, but the style of low dome/small iris eyes that fit best in Granado and some Iplehouse dolls. I have been poking around for them since I have needed some eyes for various people here and I haven't been entirely satisfied with my own creations. At the same time I couldn't quite bring myself to pay the 60.00 dollars a pair for the gorgeous Doll Bakery eyes (made in Idaho!). So I looked around Den of Angels and realized that there was an Asian dealer (KOKdolls) that carried this style of eyes, and maybe were the suppliers for Granado's occasional eye specials... or at least the two companies were sharing some of the same eye styles. So I went and looked at the KOK site. Their English is a little opaque, but not bad, so I ordered some eyes from them. It wasn't too hard to follow the directions to register and fill my cart ( I do think the Terms of Service were in Chinese, but I went "ok" anyway) ...
