The Naperville Doll Show

Image
This dress was probably the neatest thing I saw all day--and sadly I had to roll another porcelain doll to get it! Here is the victim, waiting for some odd dress to be put on her and to be re-wrapped for the Goodwill: Here is another shot of the dress and the wreath that came with it: And here is a hat I bought for Cat: It's basically a fuchsia fez with wild decorations on it. I need to make some hats :D Here is an overview of the biggest room at the doll show--this is about half of it. There was a lot less bizarre stuff to look at this year, and it was crowded so it was hard to paw through bins. Akutenshi and I still had a good time :D I bought two cool books and some paper dolls, too--I will put those up tomorrow.

Trades: Fayette and a Feeple 65 body

Image
("Shh", Granado Fayette says, "I fit so much better on this Maiden body than Mercury's head did"). Mercury was intended for a Male/Female sculpt, and the end result for M/F heads is that the necks always gap on the female bodies. It wasn't too bad  with M/F heads on the older bodies because the Nuevo female has a big neck and the male 64cm and 68cm bodies had sort of normal-SD-sized necks, so it wasn't so noticeable. The Lads, and the new Evol and Embody bodies have MASSIVE necks-- so it's gotten pretty incompatible for switching. (sad face emoticon). Anyway, Tabitha is just as cute, and way more photogenic in her current form. Also since she is "small SD sized", like an old Luts Delf girl, there are a ton of clothes ready-made for her out there. This dress was very inexpensive and came with stockings, it was purchased from BlueBlood Doll , who I recommend highly. I like their acrylic eyes, too! I also swapped an Evol body for a Feep...

Odds and Ends

Image
J made dessert on Sunday--blueberries on lemon custard. It was as good as it looks. :D I did some work, some boring housework, and glued pin backs to flowers with hot glue. The porcelain beads took the hot glue well, but the paper flowers just fell off again, so I will redo them later with a needle and thread. I was hoping to use the lightweight paper flowers for hair ornaments: Granado Fayette I also thought I could put Amber horns on Dierdre, but when I opened the box, the horn were Really Large-- I ended up trying them on Carissa: Soom Cuprit SO Even the horns I made for Carissa are a bit large: So I may have to go back and make smaller sculpey ones for both of them. I probably should paint the "dead guy" in the back, too :D

Granado Gitana, again

Image
Yes, it's Gitana no 2... though I supposedly got her so that Dierdre, my Granado Fayette, could have a Small Bust Nuevo body--for some reason the Small Bust has a slightly larger neck than the conventional Nuevo, so the proportions work better with the Fayette head.  I was going to dig out the spare Large Bust Nuevo body I have to put the new Gitana on it, but since Dierdre's Maiden body was right there, I put the Gitana head on that one instead, and it looks pretty good! The neck does gap because the Gitana head is the Guilem twin, so it's got a old "man sized" neck hole. The previous owner modded her chin a little, and she did a wonderful, smooth job with it; so the daintier body looks good with the more feminine head. (I had tried Gitana no 1 on the Maiden and wasn't satisfied with the look, as Sophronia is a big actress/ opera singer and needed a bigger body. And Sophie still has the original big chin :). This Gitana is now "Tatiana" and w...

Deirdre Gardening

Image
Among other things today, I took Dee out for photos--I was hoping to get a good picture of a bumblebee, but they were shy and uncooperative, so I went and found my Granado Fayette, painted by Francesca, who holds perfectly still. Most of the time. After I was done taking the photo below, I looked down... and realized that there was a bumblebee napping on my knee. Of course by the time I picked up my camera again and turned it on, it flew off. I'm hoping when the phlox has flowers I will get good bee photos, as they like to sit for longer times on the phlox flowers. Here's Dee and the chives: I also went to the Oakbrook mall, a bookstore and Ted's Montana Grill, so it was a full day.

Some Pix of Deirdre

Image
Since I spent the day doing dishes, floors and shovelling compost, there isn't too much interesting to post about--Soom has a new design of the Super Gem Boy body, but there are only a couple of poorly sized photos as of now. Once more go up on the Soom site, I will post them here.

Sam Arrives Back From Sicktress

Image
Sam is an Impldoll Octavia painted up to be a boy (c 1630) on a Granado body. He is silly fun--I finished his pants in time for his head's arrival, which may be a first. He is still waiting for his own wig, and a shirt. I did start some shoes today, but most of the day was spent out with Akutenshi , poking at stuff in Tuesday Morning and at Joann's, where trim was on sale. It was a nice day--sunshine and 30 F-- and I went out without a coat, though I was cold. The cat started out being inside, watching birds: And then she went outside (!) to see them in person: J opened up the shop to see how everything was doing (here, talking on the phone to K in Philadelphia about snow): Akutenshi brought a stole to keep Dierdre warm, and coffee for me: And we took measurements of her little Soom Thera (but not her fancy sheep feets, which I think are unique to her.) I will put those measurements up tomorrow!

Some Quick Pre-Christmas Photos...

Image
Yes, there are 2 Christmas trees--we bought a perfectly good "Alberta Spruce" from Target for very little money, I set it up, put the lights on it, sat and looked at it for ten minutes... and then asked J if we could go to Home Depot in the last ten minutes they were open on a Sunday night and pick through the bin for "a real one" ..and so we did. :D The plastic one is now a big nightlight in the bedroom and can be operated remotely, so if the cat brings us a mouse in bed (again) we can flip on the tree and see what is going on.

Deirdre the deer

Image
Look at this cutie pie!! She is a Fayette head on a Mirodoll body and she was painted by Francesca and her wig made by Akutenshi7, and..she is a Christmas present for me! I was flabbergasted and delighted and completely caught by surprise--not since Cat sent me some "empty soom boxes" have I been so surprised! (Sophie Cushion was in the "empty" box). I feel very spoiled and lucky...and I think I have some horns she can wear, too. I need to hem her dress so she can walk around!

Ersa Flora Eyes

Image
I just love doll eyes, especially the novelty ones. I've been meaning to buy some eyes from Shelly (Ersa Flora) for ages, but instead last year did a Happy Camille Wig order, and then didn't get around to the metallic eyes because at the time I didn't have anyone here who could use them. But eventually I am getting a Granado Sidonia, and I would like to do her up as fu-minn's 3d character Ami , with cyborg/clockwork eyes. I love both of these eyes a lot--at the moment Granado Fayette, who is a similar size, is modelling them. The clockwork eyes are sold singly for 15.00 each, so I just bought one to see if it would work, and now I think I will buy a second one. The blue-silver awesome eyes were 15.00 a pair as I recall, and I love them--I think the metallics that came with Paratiisi may have been Ersa Floras. They catch the light amazingly!

Mom knits a Lace Shawl :o

Image
Mom is an amazing knitter, among many other things. And she put little beads around the hem...so pretty! Mirabelle, a Granado Fayette on an Angel of Dream body, is just borrowing the shawl; it belongs to my Granado Gitana, who now has a shawl... and shoes, and not much else yet! (Mirabelle looks like she is plotting on how she can keep the shawl for herself). Thank you, Mom! (heart icon here)

Granado's Fayette

Image
At the moment, she is on my Ruo Feng's Angel of Dream Body, I did this because Fayette has a small head, and the Granado Female body has a relatively short, thick neck: Here is a comparison between the Normal Pink Granado body and the Normal Pink AoD body (65 vs 58cm): I like Fayette (who is Countess Mirabelle here) on the smaller body, plus that Angel of Dream body is the best poser ever. (Hint: Hip slots so the legs move like real legs). Here is how the AoD neck fits on the Granado head--just a slight gap; the head is a little stiff because this body is strung tightly, but it can move in all directions:
