It turns out the rabbit has been eating the fallen birdseed, so I finally got the camera where I wanted to have a good shot of it. The eyes are still goofy, but that is just what the camera does. Of course some of the animals like to check out the camera up close: I think the raccoon has clued in to the fact that where the camera is, there might be treats. I sort of like the aesthetic of the random photos at the end of the sessions, too: I also got a pretty good one of the front of the skunk :D

I had some honey peanuts on a plate. The cat was very disappointed after checking them out: We have a lot of possums: We have at least two skunks: (The water bucket has a trough heater in it to keep the water from freezing, I have been very happy with it). And we have two foxes:  These doves are so cool: And of course squirrels: I'm not tired of them--these guys get enough to eat so they aren't the big garden pests they can be. Who knew a camera with a tiny pinhole lens and no viewfinder could be such fun? This is me now every night:

This is much further away from the house, and the animals seem a lot more relaxed; so I will probably keep the camera out there. J made a stand for the camera so it can be moved around more easily than the fiberglass urn that it was on before, too. Here are a couple of photos from Saturday night: A mouse: A pretty good skunk photo! I'm hoping to get the fox again--I can see the prints in the snow where they like to travel, so I will put the camera near the prints and cross my fingers. ___________________________________________________________________________ The doll show was, as usual, a lot of fun. It was also super crowded this year, so it was a little harder to paw through tupperware than in previous years--I still found a lot of inexpensive clothes and three pair of minifee shoes, which was great (especially at 3.00 a pair). I cheated last night and put out a turkey carcass in front of the camera, and surprisingly the possums were the first to show up. They got most of it :D Then the skunks came by: Then the raccoon (which I have not resized, it was just an OK image) And finally two foxes: On one of the other images you can see a second pair of fox legs, but I liked this one because his eyes were at a good angle. If the camera was less expensive, I would be tempted to take it over to a local tiny wilderness area where I know there are deer and strap it to a tree-- but I am pretty sure some other mammal would take it away. :D

This guy came to see why the nuts were late for breakfast..so just like feeding the cat, I got up, got the nuts, opened the door, and tossed them out under his tree. I think he missed eating all of them, though; because around 9:00 PM the skunk came out from under the shed and walked around to the squirrel tree. I have a photo, but it's just the rear end of the skunk and it is about the same quality you would expect of a sasquatch photo: The skunk is pretty much the size of the cat, but maybe fatter. (We have had leftover thanksgiving treats in the compost lately). We have possums too, but they are hard to get a good photo of since they are very shy. The raccoons stroll out whenever they feel like it, as do the groundhogs. This was taken around 6:24 in the morning, when two things happened--it started to smell so much like skunk in the bedroom it made my eyes water (I think a skunk likes to sit under the hostas right outside the bedroom window, but it's also looking like maybe one has figured out some nook or cranny just outside the basement to lurk in.) In any case, usually I just open the window on the other side of the house and try to ignore the smell, but there was also a bang from the kitchen and the cat decided it was time for me to get up NOW since she doesn't like skunks and/or strange noises. So I staggered out to the kitchen and it looked like metro Chicago was on fire,(though it was just the sun coming up) so I took a photo, and started to check around to be sure the skunk wasn't on the porch. No skunk on porch, or at least what I could see through the kitchen window--the back door was shut and locked. So I checked mousetraps under the sink. No mice. I fed the cat and took anothe...
