Laurel's New Outfit, the Car Stepped in Gum, Small Painting WIP

Image
Rajendora (Sewing Box Designs, on the sidebar to the left) made this perfect outfit for Laurel. Laurel is currently on an SID body, which meant that I had to put a spacer under her chin and hold her head on with a Soom resin"banana," all in the interest of having a lighter-weight body with no magnet feet. And the outfit is SO CUTE. It also snaps in front and is so easy to get on, and the beads just are the cherry on top. Laurel just needs some matching blue boots to go with it. Rajendora sews the best things! We went to see if a book I was looking for might be at the used book store. It was not, and the car stepped in gum in the lot: I still came home with two CJ Cherryh books I had not read before (The Faded Sun series). I also signed up for the waiting list for a science fiction show in Boston, so I have started some small painting for that--they need to be able to go through the mail, and it turns out I like painting small. I have made a lot of progress since th...

Odds and Ends

J made dessert on Sunday--blueberries on lemon custard. It was as good as it looks. :D I did some work, some boring housework, and glued pin backs to flowers with hot glue. The porcelain beads took the hot glue well, but the paper flowers just fell off again, so I will redo them later with a needle and thread. I was hoping to use the lightweight paper flowers for hair ornaments: Granado Fayette I also thought I could put Amber horns on Dierdre, but when I opened the box, the horn were Really Large-- I ended up trying them on Carissa: Soom Cuprit SO Even the horns I made for Carissa are a bit large: So I may have to go back and make smaller sculpey ones for both of them. I probably should paint the "dead guy" in the back, too :D

The Leftovers

Image
Looking very surly at being forgotten in their bags from the big inventory photoshoot, Amber (Luts Nanuri 07) and Violetta (Luts Juri 07B) pout on the table top. It took so long to get everyone together that the sun went down, which is why the photos from yesterday are a bit blurry. It's almost artistic here, where Carissa (a modified Soom Cuprit SO) sits next to Ereshkigal (Granado Gabe head on a Soom Free Choice Topaz body), who seems to be "resting her eyes". I wish these guys had come out better--an Iplehouse Denzel and an IOS "G"; I think I will re-shoot them later when I get a day with some sun. Finally a quick look at Iplehouse Rexy, who probably should be stored in tissue, but I like seeing her with the other dolls so she is still out for the moment.

Two Soom Girls

Image
I spent most of today vaccuuming, and then grocery shopping, so not much interesting happened. I did move some things in the doll closet and took out Carissa, Soom Cuprit, and Raisin, Soom Migma, for a couple of quick photos: (Those are Beryl hooves from some Free Choice girl, btw) And Raisin:

Carissa Early in the Morning

Image
Just a quick photo as I have a lot to do today. The Soom White Rabbit/Jackalope/ Northerly Breeze is up, in kit form too , and I found out that Chrome works much better than Firefox on the Soom site--for one thing, the Q and A shows up!

Christmas 2014

Image
First of all, the weather was amazing. That is liquid water in the pond! J makes stollen for the neighbors--these still need the butter and powdered sugar "frosting" on top> Christmas Eve dinner--the pie is a pecan pie/tart with molassas and rum. It's very good, though we will need to give some away. (that is a BIG tart). Mom knitted me mittens from Ravelry and a scarf! I got a Supernatural car shade from J, so Castiel and Dean can look out the windshield. The scale is pretty perfect.:D And Cat gave me a magnificent cloak--with jewels and butterflies. Since it's one size fits all, it may get handed around-- but right now, Carissa (Soom SO Cuprit) is the proud wearer! Thank you, Cat! I hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

Carpet

Image
This week I finally got around to getting a carpet guy ("Mike") to come and look at my floors and work up estimates for various floor coverings. The stairs need to be done first, as they are filthy from last winter and stinky from the previous owner's pugs, but since it was a small area I wanted to give Mike more to do, and the carpet I want (beige with brown speckles) can go anywhere as it looks pre-dirty and bland, so I asked him to include the small bedroom as well in his estimate. He took my sample and went off, and I haven't heard back from him yet, which is OK since he told me he was in "carpet hell" doing a hi-rise in downtown Chicago. They have to reserve time on the freight elevator, and there is nowhere to park the van. He said they got "One unit" done after an entire day of driving, elevatoring and laying carpet. So I am assuming he is busy this week. In the meantime I ripped out the carpet in the bedroom, to see what bad news was unde...

More Carissa Feet (on Carissa)

Image
Here are the Free Choice Beryl hooves, finished for the moment, though they could use a little more gold leaf on the inside, and a spray coat (not happening until it warms up). I also did the nails, though again I would have liked to do some pastel highlights on her hands and some body blushing. (It was fifteen degrees when I got up this morning, by the way). If you have seen a plush spider hanging around the living room, this is what I use it for: Those flocked legs are perfect for holding small items while they dry! I admit this particular combo looks sort of creepy. I also noticed today that there are several fang marks on the spider's butt that I never noticed before. I suspect Stripey and the spider have been amusing themselves when I am in bed. Anyway, I got Carissa's head on her new body and took her outside for photos...or a couple of photos. Neither of us was really dressed for the temperature. The artist who painted her (Charie Wilson) sanded down her upper lip ...

Aelfric and Carissa

Image
Just cleaning out my camera; this one made me laugh. When I am not actually working on a doll, I usually cover them with a piece of fabric--my gray cat used to lick their faces and Stripey wants all the wigs.
