The Ark of the Covenant

Image
It's actually a blanket chest that J is working on; it's almost done. It's very large, which is good because we have a lot of blankets that need summer storage. J just says we "just need to avert our eyes when we take out a blanket." I want to put a couple of dolls on the lid for a photoshoot, dressed as angels :)

The Doll Shelf

Image
This is a first draft of a cabinet I would like J to make--he's willing to do it, but we are hampered at the moment by the fact the shop floor is mildly flooded and this lead indirectly to blowing a circuit, so that will have to be dealt with first. And lets be honest, any spare room in this cabinet is going to ask to be filled with another doll. Speaking of handy people, my niece fixed a toilet.. by herself. This is her diagnosing the problem: I would encourage this--I can vouch for how much plumbers make, since I have mine here in my phone contact list along with my immediate family.

Some Random Photos

First is a lipstick box for K, made by J. It's really cool and will look even better stuffed with MAC lipsticks. :D These are some practice cakes lurking in the back part of Wilton, we happened to go past it and I was charmed by the display though it wasn't lit too well. This is actually my neighbor's distressed pool with a tarp over it, but I think it looks like a Celtic burial mound when the wind puffs up the tarp. We just need a few standing stones scattered around. (I miss the inflatable shark that used to lurk around the edge of the pool). Fatoush salad and a chicken kebab plate from the Cedar Grill. K's nails match the tomatoes. The first bit of the moon over the Bolingbrook Mall. Here is the last bit of Halloween, too--the creepy clown has been kicked over in his display at The Spirit of Halloween, and most everything was sold the day after Halloween--I got an Avengers shirt, a top hat, and some "angel wings" for a doll all at half off. Another s...

Found Behind The Computer

Image
It's actually from when I moved all the breakables in the room back into the computer niche, and then missed those two when I moved stuff back out. It's in the basement and in my defence I never use that computer, but it's where the modem and wifi are, which is why I finally went down and looked back there. Blogger has been slow to load lately, so I haven't been keeping up--I ended up getting a modem directly from Comcast, trying to fix the problem, and I replaced some cables, but the slow internet is persisting. Also Windows has had some kind of update and my browsers aren't sure they like it. J has kept busy making a lipstick holder for k, it looks really cool:

The Saw Arrives

Image
J finally got his saw, sort of as his own birthday present. It's a Saw-Stop, which has a safety feature of being able to detect fingers too close to the blade and apply a brake to the blade (it's apparently dramatic to see how it works, I think there are YouTube videos of it). I'm happy with this, since J works in the shop by himself most of the time, and he needs his fingers. In reality, he's probably going to be fine since he worked for years in refineries, and is Mr. Safety. (At a party once another guy said to J, "Your job scares me" and he was a nuclear power plant operator at Salem ;D) On the other hand, I was worried about J getting this 300 lb monster up into the shop, but he made a rolling cart for it and didn't drop it on his toes. Here it is safely in the shop--it still needs the base (on backorder): You can see even with the cart it was heavy. Now I have to resist the temptation to present J with a long list of wood projects I want :D
