Double Trouble

Image
Immortality of Soul Infernale Two Immortality of Soul "Infernales" joking around; one is visiting from Cat, the one on the left with the brighter tongue is mine: ("Rusty"). Cat's guy needs clothes, mine needs blushing to match his head, which was dyed NS by his previous owner. I got a lot done this weekend, cleaned out the pantry, cleaned out a closet, and sorted stuff, but I also did some small doll things as well. I put Coral the Soom Migma on a Resinsoul Lian tall body...I have one on order in some shade of purple, and it will come eventually, but here you can see the proportions are good.: Soom Migma/Resinsoul Lian I tried on some Soom SG jointed hands on Aelfric, the Soom Sabik--because he is larger than a Super Gem (he is an 80 cm Mech Angel) the hands are a little small, though beautifully made-I wish I had more of them but they are not cheap. Another thing I should learn to make. :o Soom Mecha Angel Sabik I put in some Oscar Doll Eyes i...

Sabik, Only Crabbier

Image
I haven't been over to istockphoto in ages, but when I got a cover assignment a couple of weeks ago, I though I would go see if I could pick up a few guys at low res for general reference. It seems that Corbis or some other vulture has bought up istock, because the prices! Hot damn, it was 30 dollars for a thumbnail for the ones I was even vaguely interested in. So that was no good, and my clipping files are..somewhere in a tupperware in the basement BUT there was a tall gangly guy sitting in a closet just a few feet away from me, so out he came, along with his friend the Granado Pancho, and they posed for me. It's not an exact likeness of either of them--and that is a good thing. In the meantime I need to go back to my friend Jimmy Thomas over at Romance Novel Covers and see what new photoshoots he has been doing. He's still quite affordable and there is nothing like "work" being paging through a website of handsome men. I need a lumberjack.

A Tiny Sword

Image
Or perhaps a large dagger--it's a $29.99 letter opener from Barnes and Noble, and it's for Aelfric, my Elf Sabik. He's the only guy it seems appropriate for among my crew, and because he is so tall it's more like a Crocodile Dundee dagger: Here it is with Estelle, who is a more average Fairyland 60 size (SD sized). I like that she has a sort of "do not want" expression here. I need to get everyone in their winter stuff..seeing all those tiny bare feet is making me feel cold. It's around 21 F here right now.

Aelfric and Weeds

I need to pull some weeds bigtime.

Two of Aelfric

Just a couple of quick pix of Aelfric; been busy--I also had a cover approved! This is a really good series, too, I enjoyed it a lot!

More Sabik, now Named

Image
Aelfric (and that is a name that seemed to fit, after trying a few others) is now somewhat painted, though I am afraid it will all come off again, as I sprayed on the porch at 45 degrees F during a sleetstorm. But I just hate having them sit around blank, and I wasn't willing to mail him off to be done professionally at this time. (Aelfric says "Your cat is insane". Of course he is right.) Here's a bald shot: And two with a wig. I like that wig, but it has a black liner and it hides his ears, so it may need to be replaced with something else.

Three Bad Photos of an Elf Sabik

Image
Yes, he is here! And he is larger than I remembered 80 cm to be, partly because Valentine's (who used to be on a battered Mecha Angel body) head is smaller than The Elf's. Sabik's head is the size of an apple. When I picked him up from his previous home at Minerva's , he was still in the factory-unassembled state, and I have to say I have never had a more cooperative doll in getting put together. The first pair of eyes I put in fit, three different wigs looked ok (though I like the color of this one the best.) And he sat and stood perfectly well... until I pulled out the clothes, and then he was having none of it. I can't blame him--the only thing big enough for his shoulders was a shirt so fabulous not even my gay guy would wear it, and the other option was a dragon halloween costume. So he was in it for about 3 minutes for a couple of snapshots. I need to sew him some character-appropriate clothes asap! Here you can see he is almost as tall as Mr. Roboto: Here...

SabikElf

Image
Ok, I know the outfit is odd (it looks like the love child of a Royal Navy lieutenant and a hoodie), and he probably has too much eyeliner, but that is a Mecha Angel Elf Sabik. I have only ever seen two in the years I have been collecting dolls--Buff had one, and there is Candygears' Mr. Have in Seattle, whose box I now own. So I never even put an Elf Sabik on my mental wishlist, even though Sabik was the original model for one of the characters in the web comic that I haven't worked on for..oh..two years now, with moving and whatnot. And once Soom said "No mas" with the Mecha Angels I thought well, that was that. But it turns out that there is one so close to me... I can drive there in my car. My car! So Sunday I am taking up one of my guys and hopefully I will find the owner's house and there will be an exchange, and I will come home with a Elf Sabik. Which, I am embarassed to say, I already have clothes and shoes and a wig that I have been saving up since ab...

...and a famous box.

Image
You may say, "So what? It's an old Soom Elf Sabik box, a fairly rare doll but not famous.." And I would say "Yes, but it's Mr. Have's box." If you don't know who Mr. Have is, all I can say is he belongs to, and is the creation of, Seattle artist and doll collector Candygears . He looks like this: He has a Flickr here: Mr. Have's Flickr (Also, Candygears does have pink hair.) Mr. Have is so famous that Soom later made this guy , and did some of his styling (IMO) as a sort of homage (scroll down to the second promo). Anyway, Candygears painted up a doll of Cat's , Clyde the Romantic Heliot, who has gold trimmed hooves: Clyde was displayed at the Seattle bjd convention Uncanny Dreams, and then shipped back to Cat in Mr. Have's old box, and then Cat, finding out that I needed boxes, especially for the kit-form-Benmore, sent me Mr. Have's box. It's a really large box.
