I have this liquid Fimo from Staedler that you are supposed to bake in the oven, and it is suppose to cure and be clear and flexible. It's not clear for eyes...it bubbles and looks cloudy, no matter what I do about the time and the temperature I cook it. If I make a dot on some foil and cook that, it comes out OK, but that isn't all that useful. So I decided to just try pouring more in a foil container and adding some glitter, and cooking that, and see what happens. I just wrapped foil around this plastic xacto cover for the shape. bwahaha a use for the Glitter Flakes! Cut them up small... After I added the Fimo, the blue Glitter Flakes stained the Fimo blue..:o Ready to cook... Ding! Out they come, I let them cool for about ten minutes, and then it is time to unwrap them! Quite a bit of flash around the edges. The Fimo is so rubbery the xacto would not cut it, so I used some scissors to trim the edge. It's like the stuff that flip fl...

One of my Soom Sphaler hybrids has had Simply Divine Hooves on since 2012, and I would like to get them on Sophie Cushion, my old MD Beryl, because she has no hooves of her own. They are also very very nice hooves and Sophie seems to appreciate the best of everything. However, I seem to have lost Balthazar's Impldoll feet. I vaguely remember sticking them on someone else because they had built-in heel balls, so I assume it was some Soom doll...but otherwise I have no clue. So here is poor Balthazar: Something needed to be done, so I decided that homemade feet were better than no feet, so once I finished some other stuff, I got out the Fimo and got busy. I don't recommend the foil or the wire. It turns out the Fimo is plenty strong without them, and the wire shows through the translucent Fimo in spots. I cooked them for 20 minutes and that seemed perfect: Aaand then I tried them on Balthazar: And they are too big...or I should say too long, they are like clown feet on him...

Krowbar had a Fairyland 65cm male body that I thought would be great for Gideon, as I had one once before ( Xtal has that one now). So we did a trade--she told me up front he had an "Ice Arm" that she wanted to keep, and I thought that was fine since I could just stuff a nub of resin in the arm hole and attach feathers and Gideon could have a "Wing Arm". Krowbar felt that she should send along a little something extra with the body, since it only had one arm..so she sent... a head. This head, in fact: I thought maybe he was a Scar Breakaway, which are very much liked by people who collect Fairyland dolls, but after some Googling I found that while he was the Breakaway mold, he was really Ital the Ice Lord, which explains the Ice Arm. I'm not sure what explains the scars, but that seems to be a thing with Fairyland. Krowbar had added the smaller eyes (which I like a lot) and the fancier ears, and it turns out the teeth as well--they were done so well I thoug...

So here's the new, larger Benny head; still with no ears, now made out of Fimo (which is less gooey than Sculpey) and needing some more fine sanding and cleaning out of his eyewells. (The next head I will set up from the start with a support that presses out the eyebacks to begin with, and has a smoother surface for the back of the faceplate.) Here's the foil being pulled out from the inside of the face-- Once the foil was out, I trimmed back the edges, and you can see the interesting... but unfortunate... texture inside. I actually went and found the dremel and read the instructions so I could use the tiny sander to start eyewells in there. It's a slow business because it looks all to easy to pop through the eyelid without meaning to. Here he is with his feet--I have a Soom Euclase body with the claw feet and hands (I think it was from the Free Choice Event in 2014), and I am working on painting his feet and body before the weather gets cold. In case you were wonder...

Once more the eyeball factory is open and I am pumping out hilariously mismatched eyes, this time for Chalyss . I'll be sending her 20+ pair of goofball eyes for her to keep--some of them look fine if you rotate them enough they look the same, and as J said, "not much of the white will show". I bought some expensive clear liquid Fimo to do the corneas that I am not too impressed with so far--you cook it to cure it, which when it's done it looks exactly like Liquitex Polymer medium that has just air dried, but with more bubbles and less transparency, and still floppy, not hard. I used it on several pairs of eyes and it only came out somewhat good on one pair, the big 15mm blue ones in the box. I need to find something that dries (or cooks up hard) and clear, not flexi. In the meantime I was able to pry off the bubbly stuff off the worst of the eyes, and redid them with the Liquitex varnish. I'm starting to switch out some of my doll eyes to my own eyes, just beca...
