 The Naperville Doll Show was on! We all wore masks, but we could sit, vaccinated, in the lobby and drink Starbucks and pretend it was all normal. And I bought some things--most of the lace and fabric on the left is for Cat; the dress was probably from some unfortunate Chinese porcelain doll, and the tiny clothes on the right ..might..fit my Nanuri Fairyland girl on her small Moe body. Since they were a dollar apiece, I thought it was worth a try. There was a plastic futuristic rifle for Rain to shoot mutant giant bugs with, a tarot card box, and some silk flowers. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. (I also bought a wig from Akutenshi, not shown here, but I will take photos for a later post.) The dark blob on the right is actually a hat--there is a vendor at the show that always has a display of perfect little doll hats, and I try to buy one just to support her. I have made human hats for a small Renaissance Faire and it's a lot of work--and crushing if no one buys them! And they are really well ...

This is much further away from the house, and the animals seem a lot more relaxed; so I will probably keep the camera out there. J made a stand for the camera so it can be moved around more easily than the fiberglass urn that it was on before, too. I'm hoping to get the fox again--I can see the prints in the snow where they like to travel, so I will put the camera near the prints and cross my fingers. ___________________________________________________________________________ The doll show was, as usual, a lot of fun. It was also super crowded this year, so it was a little harder to paw through tupperware than in previous years--I still found a lot of inexpensive clothes and three pair of minifee shoes, which was great (especially at 3.00 a pair). I saw a vendor (verisariod at gmail) who makes comissioned miniatures of all kinds of things. The business card is a bit blu...

This dress was probably the neatest thing I saw all day--and sadly I had to roll another porcelain doll to get it! I need to make some hats :D Here is an overview of the biggest room at the doll show--this is about half of it. There was a lot less bizarre stuff to look at this year, and it was crowded so it was hard to paw through bins. Akutenshi and I still had a good time :D I bought two cool books and some paper dolls, too--I will put those up tomorrow.

On Sunday K and I spent the day driving around odd places, including the lawn ornament place in Darien, where I bought this skeptical little concrete mermaid: They didn't have too many mermaids--if I had wanted a gargoyle, I could have gotten plenty in sizes ranging from 8 inches high to 8 feet high. I had to ask to find even one mermaid, and the one that the staff guy pointed out to me was 5 feet long and 500.00, which was more mermaid than I needed. So I went inside and asked the owner if he had just the "one big mermaid" and he took that to mean that I wanted a procession alley of big mermaids instead of one smaller one. So we finally got that straightened out and I took home the small mermaid. Earlier in the day we had gone to the Marriott in Naperville to check out the doll show. It was a gorgeous day and K didn't want her photo taken: But of course I took one anyway, though inside it didn't seem like the kind of venue where photography was encouraged...
