Waterfall Glen and Random Crap

Image
Instead of moving boxes, we went to Waterfall Glen, which surrounds Argonne National Labs. The Lamont Road side is mostly for bikers and joggers, so we went around to the Cass road entrance, and walked down to the falls. The county will be working on the banks to contain erosion later in the summer and the winter, so we were lucky to walk down there and see it while it was open. It was pretty, but full of people and dogs, and a water snake. I tried to take a photo of it, but since I was the only person standing still, the snake swam RIGHT AT ME so the photo is blurry. This is why the snake was swimming around: The dogs were on leashes but it was not a wildlife-friendly spot. So we left and went back up Lamont Ave. to Lawn Ornament Heaven. The sculptures were expensive.(You can see how big the place is if you look in the glass ball's reflection) We decided that they charged by the pound instead of for aesthetic merit, since concrete is heavy to move around. I also bou...

Chocolates, a mansion, cars, and a bug

Image
Today we went and visited the Peabody mansion, it was very cool.. but it definitely needed some work: It has a lake behind it, with faux mansions that are like big condos, they are so close together. I was not tempted to swim in the lake, it smelled very...pondy. The wilderness area around it was quite nifty --we found a frog pond, but the frogs were shy, so there were no photos, and we got hot and muddy enough that we went to the mall down the street for sushi and a drink, and saw these little guys: Then we went to Downers Grove for coffee, and there was a car show through all of downtown. Mom had a Mercury that looked a bit like this car, but it was red: this is a 1955 Chevy. Is this a quail on the Ford? I have no idea, it's just cool. Actually now that I look at again I think it's a grouse. And finally a crazy bug on the lamp at home. I have no clue what it is, but it flies.

Stripey Cat's Not-excellent Adventure

Image
late Monday night, around 3 AM, when the moon was shining, the garbage was out and it was warm outside, Stripey Cat decided to go for a walk. She went across the street, and tried (I think)to eat the food that belongs to the Cat From Spain. The Cat From Spain was born on an Air Force Base, and does not like other cats trespassing on it's property, coming into it's garage, or eating it's food. It looks like he (or someone) just took his paw and spanked Stripey Cat, hard, on the butt, with his claws out. The next day, $150.00 later, and a lot of paperwork, a shave for Stripey, and some antibiotics, we were mostly all better. I thought about taking a photo of the photo of a police dog in his tiny bulletproof vest hanging on the wall of the Animal Hospital, but my hands were full of Stripey Cat so I did not.

Men at Work/Ruo Feng painted

We went back to Naperville to pick up more paperwork, and it is "construction season". All road projects are being done as fast as possible to get done before winter. In New Jersey, the limiting factor on construction was usually Election Day. Here are the guys are gesturing at me and laughing, since I was shameless and fished out the camera for a pic. Usually I try not to photograph people, but they were "in uniform" and doing public works, so I felt entitled. More of the work and the job site (a clinic and a pizzeria, which seems to be to create an endless loop of customers). And in doll news, my Ruo Feng is back from Arianne02, and she is gorgeous. I love how snooty she looks!

Marbles

Image
Because the top floor of the house might spring a leak, we are moving everything downstairs, which means it's hard to move around on the main floor. So instead of organizing all the stuff, we went to Naperville and looked in windows. This is the display in a store called, yes, Marbles.(They sell puzzles and games) We ate at Ted's Montana Grill. Bison chili, pretty good and cheap. And some downtown fish; they are part of a jewelry display but the jewelry was boring compared to the fish.

Lyman Woods again

Another evening walk, not many photos because we got a late start. In case you were wondering what was on the rocks on the right, it's ducks:

Wings and Snakes

That's 8 neodymium magnets, baby! I had to glue them on separate days, the pockets are so close together inside her head. The snakes are very amusing and cute in person. Someone at Soom had fun designing them!
