5 Alarm Fire

Image
While I poked at ice at home, in metro Chicago they were battling a warehouse fire..and ice. There must be a way to heat the water coming out of the hoses--I mean you already have the built-in generator of the truck, and the firefighters apparently use road flares around the hydrants to keep the water from freezing at the connection. Famous Dog

Back in 2008, Soom released a doll (Soom Heliot) that I thought was the Craziest Doll Ever. Heliot Link Soom had already done several dolls with "pony feet", so that I was used to--but this guy was a unicorn. With wings. And blue makeup and a "bite me" expression. And he sold so well that everyone had to wait 6 months for Soom to clear out the backlog and ship everyone their sulky unicorns, which caused a lot of wailing and made Soom post up a promise to ship within 100 days or refund some of the cost of the doll. (Which I think is nice of Soom, but uncalled for--they are art pieces, not refrigerators). Of course my friend Cat was not willing to have just another unicorn-with-wings at her house. She wanted a poodle. A pink poodle. So "Edgar" was delivered to her house and fitted up with a diamond collar and a fabulous pink wig and proceeded to take "walks" up and down Long Island, visiting car shows and doll meets with equal aplomb. Edgar l...

The Horse Trough De-Icer

Image
The koi pond is icing over, even with me prying up ice with the shovel--it ices faster than I can pry it off. I have bubblers, which are working again now that I have run miles of extension cord and are using 3 different outdoor plugs. The problem is the ice will grow around the bubbler intake tubes and choke them off, and then seal off the top of the pond, cutting off oxygen. My Aquascape 2000 de-icer has been a great disappointment, to say the least--it does not play well with the GFIC receptacle it is plugged into. So I hauled it out this morning. I was planning on returning it to the store, only to find that the receipt had somehow been lost inside the turtle-like top of the de-icer, and then fell out..in the pond...and is now glued into the ice in the pond, about 2 inches under and one inch up.You can see it by my cat's foot, where he is stupidly standing on the ice Anyway, the previous owner showed me the horse trough heater when she was removing some of her own stuff...

Hybriding the new Soom Male body

If you want to add different/older legs... it won't be easy--the elastic is now designed to go sideways, not up, and the hip opening is more oval. Bird says, "What the heck was that about??"

First World Problems

It's 3 degrees F, it's 6 AM, and I am prying ice off the top of the koi pond because I think one of the bubblers has quit. Also the ants had discovered the plate that had contained the last of the Williamsburg Orange Cake in the kitchen sink, and there was great (ant) rejoicing. (J cleaned the ants up). Also, something sinister is going on with my neighbor's pool:

Beware, not all elves are equally useful

Reposted from Ilsonya's blog,( and run through Google's translator) a post by meeuw http://llsonya.diary.ru/ Monday is rarely happy with good news, and today is no exception. Trash in the number will be a little later, but for now - official communication from SPIRITDOLL . The office found that their Limit(ed) Dark actively butlezhat (bootlegged), therefore warns those who are going to buy it on the secondary market: the real dolls to be branded carrying a certificate and a plate on the back. In addition, Dark was never released in any other skintone than gray. In general, beware, not all elves are equally useful. Recasts (where people take existing dolls and make a new mold from them and then sell them as if they were the genuine product) are getting to be a huge problem, especially for people like me, who buy (or used to buy) mostly from the secondary market. I don't buy dolls from Ebay unless I know the seller, and even on Den of Angels I look to see that the certifica...

Super Gem Female Corset pattern (beta)

Image
(Clicks up larger). For unknown reasons, my graph paper is ruled into useless 5ths of an inch, so there is an almost equally useless ruler on the side. Also, it really is beta. I just flattened the blue tape form onto the graph paper and traced around it--I haven't done a test cut and sew of fabric yet to see where there are mismatches. For lining you have to cut a second full set of pieces, so you would have 2 fabric pieces for each pattern piece: one pair of fashion fabric, one pair of lining. You also have to add overlap in the back if you want to use snaps or velcro. If you want to see how it looks cut out, go here: Corset Cut Out Here is how the tape form looks on Headless Merry: If you only tape half the doll it's a lot easier to get the form off. With humans, it's easy to cut the duct tape + t-shirt off with surgical scissors, because humans are squishy and you can slip the blunt scissors ends under the tape/t-shirt. Dolls are not squishy at all, which is als...
