Fairy Tarot Cards By Doreen Virtue

I bought these because Aunt Doreen, as she was known in some tarot circles, always had the best art, and the art in this deck is really fun--it's a lot of romantic Victorian paintings clipped apart and reassembled with new painting by Howard David Johnson, and it looks great. As a tarot deck, it's ..kind of treacly. Now I have had other decks by Virtue, including Mermaids and Dolphins and the Goddess Guidance Cards, and they are unrelentingly upbeat and positive, and sometimes you need that.

But I have to say that fairies are..well, let's say traditionally they are not all sunshine and unicorn farts. Doreen Virtue herself has now become very Christian and says she plans to read all of the Bible from beginning to end, which is sort of...hmm. You have been making Angel cards since Jesus had a paper route and now you are going to pop open the Bible and read all of it?

Anyway, I should not dunk on her because millions of people have used and enjoyed her cards, as attested to by the back of the box:

Now, rather awkwardly for Radleigh Valentine, Virtue has requested that we no longer purchase her products. You can read more about it here:

But a plot twist! It turns out that Valentine has managed to stay on the oracle train, as he has some new things out,
and also has taken over the old card titles.

So you can continue to buy these "Spiritually Unsafe" cards without Virtue's name on them.

The box is sturdy and nice:
The edges are silvered, and not sharp like The Fountain Tarot (I am still wearing down the edges on that deck):

The art is, as I said, delightful:

(The suits have been renamed into seasons, which is pretty fun). They are also color-coded for quick identification.
If you would like to check out the Mermaids and Dolphins, or Goddess Guidance cards, I would say go to Ebay. There are plenty of used ones there, and you can save a tree, even if you aren't quite doing what Virtue wants in "not buying her cards". You can always google for a YouTube flip-through as well if you want to see the individual cards before buying. Meanwhile, the enterprising Valentine now has the Fairy cards on Amazon under his own name, and probably would appreciate your business.
