Hecate

Image
She came partly unassembled from Princess Bane, with a splendid artist faceup that alas, chipped off  her forehead because of the cold...I think she went from a heated warehouse to spending several hours below freezing in the back of the mail truck. So I redid it somewhat last night--she still needs silvery eyes. (The round Safrins don't quite fit, though 14mm is the right size.) She also needs her own clothes--I am glad I waited to start on a dress for her, because she looks much nicer in wine and gold than the black and white I had planned for her. Such a gorgeous sculpt--maybe my favorite now from Iplehouse. Here is a profile view: For an Iplehouse girl, she has a big head-- eight and a quarter inches around, which means she needs a size 8 wig. I will take more photos of her once she has more clothes! The poor thing has to wait in line behind my current project and Nikki's outfit, as well as actual work. She sits and stands so amazingly well on her classic EID body....

Miss Universe, Part 2

Image
Yes, the hills are alive... and so is Part Two of Tom and Lorenzo's Miss Universe 2016 !

A Bumpy Ride

Image
Yes, it looks like the US is in for some pretty rough times ahead. I'm not putting politics on this blog, since I think everyone will need a place to look at pictures of cats, flowers and toys as a break.  I just want you to know that no matter what religion you belong to, whatever your ethnic group, whatever your level of disability or your immigration status, your sexual orientation or your taste in books, you are cool with me as long as you are kind to others.

Part One is Up!

Image
As one of the commentors said, Miss Indonesia is FLAMAZING. It's also so nice to read comments under an internet post that are sweet and fun to read. Anyway, here is Part One of the Miss Universe entries (It's actually 2016, I always forget that these things run, like taxes, on the previous year)

Tom and Lorenzo And Miss Universe 2016

Image
Yes, their commentary is coming! They are "working on it" and hopefully it will be up tomorrow. It's my personal favorite thing this time of year. And that is Miss Sweden up there, giving her all. (I suspect it's a reference to Pippi Longstocking but I don't know :D You can check yourself at http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/01/miss-universe-national-costumes-2016/ Part 1 is here Part2 is here

Master of the Books

Image
It's a art piece by Waldemar Bartkowiak and you can view the larger version here : I really like the wizard as a rat :D I have not done anything newsworthy today, so instead you can go admire Bartkowiak's portfolio on cgsociety or artstation. Waldemar Bartkowiak

Oscar Doll Eyes at Grande Masquerade

Image
If you have always wondered what Oscar Eyes look like "in real life" you need to run over to Safir's grande masquerade    to see some of the best photos ever taken of these eyes, and to see them in Senja's Elf Mermaid Vera. I guarantee you will want your own pair after that :D

Soom Serin and Rico Mermaids again!

Image
Yes, it's mini-mermaids again at Soom ! I like the human version of her as well, she is such a cutie. They have styled her this time as an "arctic mermaid" so the colors are cool blues and purples. I think the little shell tiara is new, and the limited wig is fabulous !

Granado's Vindoll

Image
It's Granado's new vinyl doll--something like an Obitsu but with a larger range of motion. Looking at the skeleton, I think it will still be important to be gentle with the hip/spine connectors and bend them slowly and carefully, like an obitsu. Here is the body with it's vinyl "cover": You can read a lot more about it and it's posing and weight here . You can also just buy the frame alone for 80.00 usd, which might be really fun if you want to do something like a paperclay maquette over it. But if you just want a lightweight, hot guy to pose, you can order Udell in all his bronze magnificence (the same price as NS) here! If you do just get the Vindoll body, the checkout page will still ask you about the head--I went ahead and "added" the head and then it vanished when it got to the payment stage. I am hoping to rig my Jupiter head on there somehow (probably with something as simple as a binder clip over the "nub") because...

Soom Idealian Garion

Image
So if you have 810.00 USD laying around the house, and you want to adopt a sad, tawny demon , now is your chance--Soom issued Garion in fire-engine red, but then they decided he was cool enough to do a Cream White, Normal, or for some extra money, a Tawny version (shown above). His order period has been extended to January 30th. I have no need for the horns, but I rather like the human version: He's pretty fine :D However, if I did have that amount of money in the cookie jar, I would instead buy Lelahel's Jeline, which is also on sale on the Den of Angels Marketplace .  Jeline is a Soom reissue of Beryl, the Love Me or Die version. There were only 50 of them made, and Lelahel is Jeline's first owner, so she has the box, certificate, etc. I have a LMOD, but I am a little hampered in that mine has the original faceup and body paint, so I am afraid to play with her. (Which is why you don't see her in my group shots, either).

Just Nikki (Souldoll Shiva)

Image
Souldoll Shiva I finally got a face on her, since it was 50+ degrees on Sunday, and briefly sunny! I still want to henna her hands, but that might have to wait for later. I also made her a bead necklace and I need to find her a second, "not quite as long" wig, since this one is constantly grabbing everything near it, even though it is a splendid wig!

Salvation Army haul

Image
Eight dollars will buy you a lot at the local Salvation Army--the bag looked small until we opened it up: There were a few small plastic items in there that I felt weren't able to be repurposed or repaired, (you can see them at the top of the first photo, above the string of green beads) and there were a lot of crucifixes, which I don't feel are appropriate for doll ornaments. I did keep all the religious medals, because I like them--all the BVM and Saint Christopher medals get put into my Saintly Stash along with various other dieties. I do wonder why SO MANY religious things get put back into the Salvation Army drop boxes--it is like how you are supposed to thoughtfully dispose of American flags, by taking them down to the local Veteran's Hall? "Returning this, did not fit?" Anyway, it was a fab bag of goodies--there was quite a bit of nice beads and cubic zirconia earrings in there, and one very tiny, real sapphire. (Not much bigger than the period at t...

The 2017 Photo Contest at Granado!

Image
Yes, it's that time again (already!) I have given it NO thought so I am not ready..I might just do a group shot and send that in; but it is so worth while to send in something because everyone gets a little discount, and the bigger prizes can save you quite a chunk of change if there is a doll from Granado on your wishlist. Here are the rules--very open, really! The hardest part is to be sure it is something new that hasn't already been on Flickr or DoA or all those places: Dear all, This year our photo contest is also back! Same as 2015 and 2016's photo contest, all submitters will get a prize! :-) :: Entry Qualifications :: Customers who owned our dolls and love photography. :: Entry Period :: 2017/1/18 - 2017/2/28 (closes at 12:00 p.m. Hong Kong standard time) :: Photo Types :: A single photo or a set photo. Mystery From China

Image
So in the post yesterday, along with the Shiva, was a tighly-rolled parcel from China, with just a guy's name, no company, and when I got it opened and unrolled it, it proved to be a high-quality non-slip doormat, exactly the right size to put in front of my kitchen sink. My brother is the chief suspect, but he's already sent me Christmas presents, so I am not sure. It's a great mat, and is amusingly inappropriate, which makes me think it IS my brother :D

Original Shiva

Image
This lady was originally Miss Ally's, and when Miss Ally sadly passed away, Gus took her in; then Cat adopted her from Gus, and now she has come to live here -- instead of me ordering a new one from Souldoll. I like having someone that was at Miss Ally's--she was a fun person and had fabulous taste in dolls. Cat sent her with some beautiful extras: jewelry and a splendid wig and eyes, so all I need to do is give her a face,(Which will be a little nerve-wracking, but if it doesn't come out I can always send her to Angel Toast/Elisa Maza), and make her clothes! I tried to take some photos of the joints since the new release is supposed to have the original double-jointed body. I like the body a lot--it looks very simple but it works beautifully and looks great: Here are the elbows--a huge range of motion and suprisingly stable to pose: Here are the knees--not the most beautiful part of her, but very functional: In case you were wondering what the multiple ...

The Soom 2016 Body

Image
Soom SuperGem Body 2016 and 2012 So here is a new, 2016 Soom Male Super Gem Body (formerly under a Brett, I think) along with Bird, a Soom Tremo, who has the 2012 body. The newer WS body is actually lighter in weight than the older one, and a lovely pinky-white shade, and a bit translucent--almost identical to my old IOS G in heft and color. The body, like Bird's body, does not really like to sit upright with the legs extended--just like every Soom I have owned, so I was OK with that. Same magnet hand system, same 2-part stringing with the legs on one circuit and the head on another, as shown by Bird in this post. Aside from being slightly taller and slimmer, the 2016 body has different elbows. The "peg" up inside the 2012 arm that annoyed and confused so many people is gone, with just this vestigial bump left to support the elbow in extended poses. Mostly it works quite well. If you are looking at a photo of a Super Gem and you can't tell which year ...

No, I have Not Forgotten!

Image
..That I promised some photos of the new Soom 2016 male body! I took them today, but I have not sorted or resized them. I will do that tomorrow! (I love this outfit, I would wear it to the post office.)

Five Eyes

Image
So Sicktress sent me this cool Oni (Jing) from Miracle Doll! I was so delighted because I have all kinds of eyes and here is someone who can use a lot of them. But now I want to make custom ones, because my Ersa Floras are a bit round for the slots, though I think the central forehead eye will stay the way it is. She will be a girl Oni, once my taxes are paid and I have earned some more money. (I ended up paying a lot more taxes this year because I had a lot more work--and I am not complaining!) I'm planning on getting a Resinsoul Lian body for her--it's tall enough to accomodate 5 eyes HUGE head :D. She reminds me a little of a funky version of a Dollstown doll. Look at the profile: She also came in a magnificent bag in a beautiful box: So thank you Sicktress--and for the Llama card! Hehe! <3
