Test Sleeves

Working on an outfit for Bex, but the test sleeve I did proves that the beads I have are too big, and I should couch down a small gray cord for the sleeve embellishments instead of the stitches I was using. I am working the uncut sleeves in an embroidery hoop, though, and that makes all the sewing a lot easier.

  1. Gotta love that 18th Century, they had ALL the tricks for embellishment work. Not much has changed since then. Embroider then cut. But I don't think the beads are too big. Unless you want something more subtle? You could also get a larger rayon thread and just machine it. Try http://www.redrockthreads.com/. I was looking there recently and they have some nice stuff. A 12 weight is thick, 40 is thin.

    1. I am on the fence about the beads--I love the opal look of them but maybe I need to go to a smaller size, like some of those teeny Toho beads? I have another sleeve almost done and I'm hopeful about that one, though I haven't solved the bead problem.
