Reality versus Science Fiction

My friend Karl wrote, after receiving the Star Trek communicator (c.1960's) from generodenberry.com:

Both detectable from orbit. The one on the left has many more functions, including a camera, and is smaller.

My complaint is the the "beam me up" function is broken on mine.
